Parents do everything in their power to give the best to their children and this starts by giving their ward a head start – choosing the right school. Indian parents pay a lot of attention when it comes to their kids’ education for several reasons. First, in many Indian families, the choice of school is seen as a reflection of the family’s values and aspirations. Parents want their children to be associated with institutes that align with their cultural and societal beliefs.
Second, attending a reputable school can provide children with the opportunity to interact with peers from influential families. These connections can be valuable in the future for career prospects and social networking.
Hence when it was time for parents Sandeep and Alka Chopra to send their first-born son – Pranay, now in class XI to a school, they chose Apeejay School, Panchsheel Park. Of course, the entire process was elaborate and taken after due consideration.
“We live in South Delhi and when it was time for my son to start formal schooling we looked at all possible schools in the area; some even that were far away. Back in 2011, we must have looked at more than 10 schools including Panchsheel Park. The feedback that we got was positive and here we are 12 years down the line and my younger son – Devyansh, now in class IX – is also studying here.
Excerpts from the interview.
Why did you choose this branch?
As I mentioned, we had looked at over 10 schools. But the feedback that we got for this school was good. We had heard the pre-primary and primary section teachers were excellent. Since we were living in the vicinity of 5 km, we chose this school.
How has your overall experience been?
Pranay was admitted in 2011 and Devyansh in 2013. The experience has been good. In the last decade or so, both my children have done well in the class. The best part is that what we had heard about the school came true. The pre-primary and primary section teachers are wonderful. It makes it easy for students to learn when they form a bond with the teachers.
What teaching methodology has helped your children’s learning?
It is difficult to pick one. But the most important one is that the school encourages self-study. So till my kids were in class VIII, they never had to take tuition. However, the elder one wants to pursue engineering, so he joined classes that are held over the weekend. For the younger one, he takes classes online.
How are your children doing in the class?
Both are good students and since they have been taught to self-study, they are doing well. I am happy with their progress. Pranay’s Math teacher makes them solve questions on the blackboard. That is an added advantage for him since his learning is only getting better.
What about the parent-teacher meetings?
They are held once a month. The teachers are respectful and always stand up when we go to meet them. They even offer us their chair. This response from the teachers is overwhelming.
What about extracurricular activities?
I would say that the school is very good at this. The holistic development that they give to the students is unparalleled. Over the years, both my children have participated in different events and this has widened their horizons. For this, I am grateful to the school.
