In line with Apeejay’s motto of providing holistic education, Apeejay School, Kharghar, observed the National Nutrition Week 2022 to emphasise children’s physical well-being which goes hand-in-hand with their intellectual and emotional development.

The event was celebrated between September 6-9 and was well-aligned with this year’s theme of “Celebrate a World of Flavours”.

The Nutrition Week commenced with a special assembly by Class XII students on the theme “Eat healthy, live healthy”. The students spoke on the importance of consuming nutritious food and reminded the audience to adhere to a healthy lifestyle—not just in terms of diet but also physical exercise.

The students of class XI prepared an informative PowerPoint presentation themed “Health is Wealth”. In the PPT, they shared facts about different nutrients and their calorie content, and how they benefit the human body.

Meanwhile, the students of class IX and X participated in slogan-writing and poster-making activities on the occasion. The programme ended with a highly creative vegetable-carving activity, which the students enjoyed a lot. Students made Lord Ganesha using tomatoes, a palm tree with carrot and capsicum, a crocodile with bitter gourd, etc.

The middle school took part in the “My Healthy Plate Exhibition –Celebrate a World of Flavours”. The students came up with beautiful and delicious food recipes. It was an enriching experience through which they learned how to incorporate various ingredients and flavours and come up with a healthy and yummy recipe. All the children enjoyed doing the activity and reflected a deep understanding of the health benefits of the recipe by sharing the nutritive value of the dish with the class. It also sowed seeds of learning the essential life skill of cooking for oneself. Later, they relished the dishes.

Keeping oneself physically fit is equally important for overall well-being. The students, therefore, gathered to celebrate ‘Yoga Day for Happier Gut” where they learned simple yoga poses for gut health. The following day, class X students presented a talk on the topic: “Stay hydrated” to discuss the benefits of drinking water and how it forms an essential part of a healthy diet.

On the final day, the students displayed their artistic talent in a poster-making activity on the topic “Let food be thy medicine”. They came up with stunning posters depicting the importance of a healthy and balanced diet.

The primary section also celebrated Nutrition Week, which began with a “food platter” activity where they decorated their plates with healthy food items and spoke about their nutritional value. They also enjoyed a “food pyramid-making” activity where they got to know about the correct proportion of nutrients through food pyramids and charts and learned teamwork in the process.

The physical education teachers conducted a yoga session to promote an active lifestyle. The students of classes V-A and V-B presented a special assembly on the topics “The new tradition is good nutrition” and “Unlock your potential with good nutrition” respectively.

The Health and Nutrition Week celebration was successful in promoting awareness and ended up with a note that “you don’t want to eat less, you just have to eat right”. Overall, it was a highly enriching and thrilling experience for the students.
