To score well in a subject, a student needs to have a positive rapport with the teacher so that he/she doesn’t balk at the idea of getting up in the class and getting doubts cleared however silly they may appear to be. This will also help the teacher understand the strengths and weaknesses of a student and customise the learning to suit his/her pace.

Students face challenges or difficulties in their academic journey, whether it’s related to understanding the material, managing time, or dealing with personal issues. When students have a good relationship with their teacher, they are more likely to seek guidance and support. Teachers can provide mentorship, offer advice, and connect students with appropriate resources to help them overcome obstacles and achieve success. More so, when it comes to a subject like Physics.

Meet Sanjana Chouhan, a Physics teacher at Apeejay School, Kharghar who has been teaching classes X to XII at the school for the last 11 years. “I have done my MSc and BEd and started my professional journey. Though I have been teaching at this branch of Apeejay for just over a decade, I have been a teacher for two decades now,” Chauhan said.

Excerpts from the interview.

What is the most rewarding aspect of being a teacher?

Teaching is a profession where we grow every day. Learning is a two-way process, where as much as you give you also receive from your students. The best part of being a teacher is when we can mould a student into a positive, happy, and skilled human being.

How do you build trust with students?

Teachers should be able to create a healthy and lively classroom environment. The classroom should be a place where everyone is respected and heard. Every child should be given some responsibilities with trust and a timeline. If a child is unable to finish the assigned work in time, then look for the reason and let the child finish the work. Be considerate and patient with the students. Trust will never be built on the first day. We need to be consistent in our approach. Remember, the teacher’s word is the most powerful tool to create a happier and productive classroom.

How do you remain motivated?

By setting smaller goals daily which can be easily attained. Keeping track of duties and responsibilities. I adhere to my daily plan and I make diligently. I also take time to think and express my gratitude to God, my workplace, friends, and family.

How has technology impacted learning among students?

Technology facilitates quicker and easier transfer of knowledge by providing stimulation for different learning styles. When used judiciously for learning under the guidance of teachers and the supervision of parents, it can be considered a boon in education.

Why and how did you choose Apeejay?

Though I have been a teacher for over two decades, I joined Apeejay 11 years back. This is because our family relocated to Kharghar. Apeejay Education Society is one of the best institutes to work at. The school is renowned for its strong culture and work ethic. It allows professional and personal growth for the teachers as well. And my journey has been great thus far.
