Heatwave forces change in school timings in Noida

In response to intensifying heatwave conditions across North India, the District Magistrate of Gautam Budh Nagar has announced revised school timings for all educational institutions in Noida. The directive, which came into effect on April 27, 2026, mandates that schools operate from 7:30 AM to 12:30 PM until further notice.

The order applies uniformly to all institutions, including government and private schools, as well as those affiliated with boards such as CBSE, ICSE, IB, and the Uttar Pradesh Board. The decision has been taken as a precautionary measure to safeguard students from extreme heat and related health risks.

Officials cited the growing intensity of summer temperatures and the prevalence of hot, dry winds, commonly referred to as “loo”—as key reasons behind the move. These conditions significantly increase the likelihood of dehydration, heat exhaustion, and heatstroke, particularly among young children who are more vulnerable to environmental stress.

The district administration has made it clear that strict compliance with the revised timings is mandatory. Schools have also been instructed to implement additional safety measures within their campuses, including ensuring adequate hydration facilities and minimising outdoor exposure during peak heat hours.

The broader region of North India continues to grapple with soaring temperatures, prompting weather authorities to issue advisories urging people to limit outdoor activities during the afternoon. In this context, the adjustment of school hours is seen as a proactive step to reduce students’ exposure to harsh climatic conditions.

Parents have largely welcomed the decision, expressing relief that their children will be less exposed to the midday heat. Authorities have stated that the situation will be closely monitored, and further changes to school operations may be introduced depending on evolving weather patterns.
