Urooj Shadab enrolled her daughter Aizah A Rehman in nursery at Apeejay School, Panchsheel Park, in the last academic year. Apart from academic growth, the online classes also turned out to be a good bonding time for the mother-daughter duo. In an interview, Urooj talks about how Aizah’s class teacher nursery had been a constant source of support. Edited excerpts:

What made you choose Apeejay School, Panchsheel Park, for your daughter?

Apeejay is renowned for its educational institutions across India. So, we just happened to fill out the application form after which we got a call from the school. We were quite impressed with the infrastructure and the management. We met the school principal and had a pleasant conversation with her. Overall, we were happy and confident about enrolling our child in the school. I was expecting a school of international standards and Apeejay lived up to that. In fact, I have decided to enroll my younger daughter Izzah, who will be turning three in April, in the same school.

Would you say Aizah is having a good learning experience?

Yes, the online classes, in fact, made the process easier for me. Initially, we were worried about how she would manage going to school and attending classes physically. Online classes, on the other hand, proved to be a great opportunity for me as well as my daughter; we had a very good time together. Her class teacher Meenakshi Ma’am did a fantastic job in handling the children even in the virtual format. With her constant guidance and encouragement, my daughter could finally hold a pencil properly. Aizah is reading three-letter words; her retention power has improved.

Do teachers encourage her to participate in extra-curricular activities?

Aizah’s class teacher has always encouraged her to take part in various activities. With a younger child to take care of, it becomes difficult for me to devote all my time to Aizah. But her teacher compensated by being her support whenever required.

What do you think of the teaching methods used in school?

This is the age of technology and I highly appreciate Apeejay’s blended learning approach. From interactive videos to phonic songs, these methods have been highly helpful in generating children’s interest in learning. Aizah continues to sing these songs. They are stuck in her mind, which is a good thing.

How has the journey so far shaped your child’s personality?

My daughter has picked up good etiquette and values, things that are gradually shaping her personality.
