‘Careers in the Mass Communication field require tremendous verbal and written communication’

Apeejay Institute of Mass Communication achiever explains how he aced the placement process

Arjun Singh Tyagi, who recently bagged a job offer from Adfactors PR, highlighted that it was a moment of elation and obviously felt like an achievement boosting him with positivity for his future endeavours. The Apeejay Institute of Mass Communication student decided to venture into journalism given the multidisciplinary experience he had with civil services preparation alongside his academic background. In this interview, he explains how he 


How did you prepare for the placement process ?

Upon deciding that I want to sit for placement in Public relations as a niche , first and foremost I tried getting an idea of what PR actually stands for given that I didn’t have a background in it . I was guided by my mentors in this pursuit of mine. They made me understand the foundational aspects of strategic communications which today sits at the core of Public relations.

Apart from that, regular newspaper reading and developing an analytical and critical thinking approach towards what’s happening around the globe further enhanced my preparation for both the written test and the Interview.

Last but not the least improving ones verbal communication skills so that your thoughts can really be articulate adds to your confidence required for personal interviews


How did Apeejay Institute of Mass Communication and faculty members help you to prepare for the placement rounds?

Faculty Members at AIMC have been the beacon of guiding from the very start of my journey at AIMC. From the orientation in August 2025 to placement now the Director and each faculty have been a constant support always accessible to their students. Not only the core faculty but guest faculty have been there throughout showing me the way through their wisdom and experience.


What kind of skills do you think are important to crack the placement with ease?

As I mentioned earlier, careers in the field of Mass Communication require tremendous verbal and written communication . With that inculcating awareness, critical thinking, analytical approach and constant vigour for learning are much needed soft skills that are non negotiable in the sector.


Tips for those who aspire to build a career in the PR sector.

Given I have just started I will just be able to my views on how one can improve. Be proactive not only with the curriculum, academics and news but also try enhancing your personality because at the end of the day it’s the field of Media which requires you to be groomed developing your soft skills including emotional intelligence) in terms of how you present yourself.

How did you stay motivated and consistent during the placement season?  


Trust the Process . Trust your mentors and the hard work you have put in throughout the year and most important “Be Patient” and wait for the right opportunity to shine.


What are your future aspirations

I would like to develop a full fledged career in strategic communication while delving deep into diplomacy and foreign policy communication in the future course of my career.
