As an institute, Apeejay School, Tanda Road wholeheartedly upholds the values of respecting and celebrating diverse cultures and traditions. The school not only appreciates varied customs but also actively participates in the enjoyment of these cultural treasures. Its beliefs are rooted in the understanding that true happiness thrives in unity, where people from all walks of life come together to create a harmonious blend of experiences, enriching the educational environment and the lives of students.

In this spirit, Apeejay School, Tanda Road in Jalandhar was aglow with festivities as it hosted its annual Dandiya Utsav, an event that brought together students, parents, families, and friends for an evening of cultural celebration and community bonding.

The school’s grounds were transformed into a colourful and vibrant carnival, illuminated with lights that set the stage for a memorable cultural extravaganza. The event featured an array of activities, including game stalls, tambola, food stalls, and rides for children, creating a festive atmosphere that was thoroughly enjoyed by all in attendance. This gathering served as a testament to Apeejay’s unwavering commitment of nurturing and promoting cultural enrichment among its students and their families.

The event’s chief guest, Mr Rajan Syal, Managing Director of Parindey Fitness, Dance, and Acting Academy, added an extra layer of excitement to the festivities. His captivating dance performances left the audience spellbound, elevating the joy of the occasion and making it an unforgettable experience for everyone present.

Next, the guest of honour and the school’s Principal, Ms. Sangeeta Nistandra, addressed the gathering with her inspiring words that set the tone for the evening. She emphasised the importance of culture, unity, and the value of celebrating traditions, reminding them the rich heritage that unites them.

In addition to this, she elaborated upon the importance of Dandiya, stating “The dance form is actually known as the Sword Dance. It is the staging of the fight between Maa Durga and Mahishasura through vigorous dance and steps. The Dandiya sticks are symbols of the swords used by the two during their duel. The musical background instruments like dhol and percussions are symbolic of the metallic clangs on battlefields. The movements of Dandiya are a lot more complex and intricate than Garba. While Garba signifies the birth of life, Dandiya signifies the destruction of evil. Both go hand in hand and the Navaratri Puja is considered incomplete without one of the two.”

Ms Nistandra added, “While Garba is played in the beginning and before the aartiDandiya comes after the aarti as part of enjoyment and the end. Both are odes to Maa Durga, one in her tender, gentle loving form as the mother of the universe and the other as a fierce warrior, the destructor of all evil. At Apeejay we celebrated the Dandiya Utsav to cherish life and nature and make sure we are in sync with nature and act as a protector.”

Ms Deepti Kaushal, coordinator of the school, concluded the event with a heartfelt Vote of Thanks, expressing gratitude to all those who contributed to the success of the event. Her words resonated with the school’s dedication to fostering a sense of togetherness.

The Dandiya Utsav served as a gentle reminder that in even in this fast-paced world, there is always a place for the timeless joy of music, dance, and celebrations. It highlighted the importance of taking a pause from hectic lives to revel in the cultural richness that unites us all, fostering a sense of togetherness and appreciation for our traditions.

Undoubtedly, the event was a testament to the enduring power of cultural celebrations in keeping spirits alive and bonds strong. It was an evening to remember, weaving together the community, adding another colourful thread to the cultural celebrations in the school.
