In a heartfelt celebration of Raksha Bandhan, the Interact Club of Apeejay School, Pitampura organised a Handmade Rakhi Making Activity to extend the festival’s message of love, gratitude and togetherness beyond the boundaries of the school and family. The meaningful initiative sought to bring the warmth of siblinghood to those who may be unable to celebrate the occasion with their loved ones.
The activity was undertaken in collaboration with Roti Bank and with the support of the Defence Ministry, with the aim of sending handmade Rakhis to soldiers serving across the country and distributing them among children from low-income communities. The initiative gave students an opportunity to celebrate the festival while recognising the sacrifices of those who serve the nation and spreading happiness among children from underprivileged backgrounds.

Students from both the junior and senior classes participated in the activity with great enthusiasm. Working with threads, ribbons, beads, paper and a range of decorative materials, the young participants independently designed and crafted 230 handmade Rakhis. Each Rakhi reflected the students’ creativity, patience and personal effort, transforming simple materials into thoughtful expressions of affection and appreciation.
The activity was conducted during school hours and provided students with an engaging avenue to learn through participation. As they selected colours, experimented with designs and assembled their Rakhis, the students experienced the joy of creating something meaningful with their own hands. More importantly, the process helped them understand that festivals can become occasions for extending kindness and inclusion to people beyond their immediate circles.

The timing of the initiative added further significance to the activity, as Raksha Bandhan approaches alongside Independence Day. The combination offered students a powerful opportunity to reflect on the values of brotherhood, service and national responsibility. By preparing Rakhis for soldiers stationed across the country, the students expressed their gratitude towards the armed forces and acknowledged their dedication to protecting the nation.
The initiative also reinforced the importance of empathy and social responsibility among young learners. Sharing their handmade creations with children from low-income communities enabled the students to understand how small gestures can create moments of happiness and belonging.
Through 230 carefully crafted Rakhis, the Interact Club transformed a traditional festive activity into a meaningful expression of compassion, creativity and patriotism. The initiative demonstrated that celebrations become even more special when they are shared with others, carrying the spirit of Raksha Bandhan far beyond the classroom and into the wider community.
