My experience at Apeejay School of Management so far has been really positive

Sunil Kumar, an MBA student at Apeejay School of Management, whose journey combines academic learning with practical experience in his family business. He chose management education to strengthen his leadership, communication and decision-making skills. An enthusiast of fitness and sports, he has already made a confident start at Apeejay by winning the coveted Mr. Fresher title. Read edited excerpts:

Why did you decide to pursue management education ? And why Apeejay? 

I decided to pursue management education because I wanted to develop myself not just academically, but also in terms of communication, leadership, decision-making, and understanding how businesses actually work. I chose Apeejay School of Management because I wanted an institution where learning goes beyond textbooks. The exposure, supportive faculty, practical approach, and opportunities to participate in different activities made APJ the right choice for me.

Your journey started with the Mr Fresher award , the first achievement, how do you feel? Did you expect this?

Winning the Mr. Fresher title was honestly a very special moment for me. It was my first achievement at Apeejay, so it made my beginning here even more memorable. Did I expect it? Honestly, I participated with the mindset of giving my best and enjoying the experience rather than expecting a title. So when my name was announced, it was definitely a surprise and a very proud moment for me.

More than the title, I think what I gained was confidence. It gave me the feeling that if I step forward, take initiative, and believe in myself, I can achieve more than I expect.

How do you see yourself growing at Apeejay?

I see myself growing at Apeejay both professionally and personally. I want to make the most of the next two years by improving my communication, leadership and management skills, while also gaining practical exposure through competitions, projects, clubs and other college activities.

I also want to become someone who is not just good academically, but someone who can take responsibility, work with people, lead a team and contribute positively to the Apeejay community. For me, Apeejay is not just a place where I’m pursuing an MBA; it is a place where I’m trying to build the person I want to become professionally.

Tell us your experience so far with Apeejay School of Management & teachers?

My experience at Apeejay School of Management so far has been really positive. What I particularly appreciate is that the environment encourages students to participate rather than just sit and listen. Whether it is academics, presentations, events, competitions or student activities, there are always opportunities to step forward and get involved.

I also really appreciate the faculty. The teachers are approachable and supportive, and they encourage us to think beyond the textbook and understand how concepts apply in the real world.

Since I’m still at the beginning of my MBA journey, I feel there is a lot more to learn and experience, but whatever I have experienced so far has made me feel that choosing APJ was the right decision.

Where do you see yourself in the coming months? 

 In the coming months, I see myself becoming more confident, more disciplined and more involved in the opportunities that Apeejay provides. I want to work on my communication skills, gain more practical knowledge, participate in competitions and college activities, and take up responsibilities wherever I can contribute.

Winning Mr. Fresher gave me a good start, but I don’t want it to be the highlight of my entire MBA journey. I want it to be the first achievement of many more to come.

What clubs are you part of at Apeejay? What has been the most interesting moment for you so far?

I’m part of the Cultural Club at Apeejay, and I’m quite actively involved in its activities and events. I enjoy being part of the cultural side of college because it gives me an opportunity to interact with different people, participate in activities and express myself beyond academics.

The most interesting moment for me so far would definitely be the Mr. Fresher experience. From preparing for it and stepping on stage to finally winning the title, the entire journey was memorable. It also taught me something important — sometimes the best opportunities come when you simply decide to participate and give yourself a chance.
