How quickly can you recognise a brand without overthinking it? The Marketing Mavericks Club put students’ brand awareness and observation skills to the test through an engaging marketing activity titled “Spot the Fake Brand – The 2-Second Eye Test” .
Designed as a fast-paced visual challenge, the activity tested participants’ ability to identify counterfeit or altered brand identities within a limited time. It encouraged students to rely on their observation skills, attention to detail and familiarity with brand elements while making quick yet informed decisions.
The activity revolved around the concept of a “2-second eye test”. Participants were presented with different brand visuals and asked to determine whether each represented the original or a fake version. With only a brief moment to examine each visual, participants had to carefully observe elements of the brand identity and identify subtle differences before making their choice.
The activity generated an energetic and competitive atmosphere, with participants keen to demonstrate how effectively they could recognise familiar brands. Small changes in visual elements made the challenge particularly intriguing, prompting students to look beyond the obvious and pay close attention to details that might otherwise go unnoticed.

The exercise also offered an interesting perspective on the role of visual identity in branding. Logos, typography, colours, design elements and other visual cues contribute significantly to how consumers recognise and distinguish brands. By testing these skills in a practical setting, the activity helped participants appreciate how strong brand recognition is built through consistency and distinctive visual communication.
The competitive format kept the participants engaged throughout the activity. Their responses were evaluated based on accuracy and overall performance, making both speed and correct identification important to the challenge. The enthusiastic participation reflected the students’ interest in applying marketing concepts through interactive and experiential activities.
The activity concluded with the recognition of the top-performing participants, along with appreciation for all participants and volunteers whose active involvement contributed to the success of the initiative.

Through “Spot the Fake Brand – The 2-Second Eye Test,” Marketing Mavericks transformed an everyday aspect of consumer behaviour into an engaging learning experience. The activity demonstrated that effective marketing learning can extend beyond conventional classroom discussions, encouraging students to observe more carefully, think quickly and understand the finer details that shape brand identity.
