Awakening session highlights value of care and sacrifice

When sharing becomes a lesson in empathy for young learners at Apeejay School, Faridabad

An Awakening Session on sharing and caring was recently organised for Class V students at Apeejay School, Sector 15, Faridabad. The session focused on helping students understand everyday values through lived experiences rather than instruction. It formed part of the school’s ongoing effort to integrate value-based learning into regular school life.

During the session, students were encouraged to reflect on what sharing truly means. Instead of approaching the idea in abstract terms, the activity centred on a simple yet personal gesture. Each child brought along a favourite toy and chose to gift it to a classmate. This act, while small on the surface, carried emotional weight for many students.

Teachers present during the session observed how students initially hesitated before parting with their belongings. Over time, however, this hesitation gave way to a sense of comfort and quiet happiness. The experience helped them recognise that letting go can often deepen connections rather than reduce them. It also allowed students to see care and empathy in action within their peer group.

The session is part of a broader series of awakening programmes designed to nurture values such as love, respect, courage, and compassion. By placing students in real situations where they practise these values, the school moves beyond theoretical teaching. The focus remains on helping children internalise these lessons through experience.

What this reflects is a shift in how value-based education is being approached at the primary level. When students engage directly with ideas like sharing and caring, the learning tends to stay with them longer. Such sessions continue to shape not just behaviour in the classroom, but also how students relate to others beyond school.
