Apeejay School of Management (ASM), Dwarka recently hosted an online panel discussion on “Management Lessons from Sufism” Mr Qamar Javed, General Manager, NABARD and a noted Sufi expert, facilitated the discussion and addressed interesting questions raised by student panelists from PGDM 2024-26 batch. The panel discussion was organised as an innovative pedagogy in the Indian Ethos & Universal Human Values course to augment inquisitiveness and analytical skills among students.

Ms Neha Sheet welcomed the guests and introduced Mr Qamar Javed and other panel members namely Ms Sweta Jha, Ms Isha Kumari, Ms Aishwarya Yadav and Ms Deepshi. The discussion revolved around the origin of Sufism, universal human values imbued in Sufism, role of Sufism in enriching arts, music, and literature and cementing Hindu-Muslim unity. Mr Javed observed that Sufism espoused compassion, patience, humility, sincerity, charity, truthfulness and gratitude which are essential for fostering holistic development of human beings. Contemporary leaders and managers may leverage the virtues espoused by Sufism for both personal and organisational effectiveness. Responding to a question by Ms Mahe Noor, Mr Javed said that one can practice the virtues espoused by Sufism as ordinary human being

even without renouncing the worldly pleasures like the esteemed Sufi saints.

Mr Javed emphasised the importance of inter-faith dialogues and cultural exchanges to inculcate tolerance and unity of purpose among different sections of the society to attain the lofty goal of ‘Viksit Bharat by 2047’. Dr Srirang Jha, Head, General Management area, summed up the discussion and observed that India is a multicultural society, and Indian ethos revolves around tolerance and accommodation of cultural distinctiveness of different sects which came from across the world and flourished in the country. Ms Deepshi proposed a vote of thanks. Ms Neha Sheet compered the panel discussion.
