Organising alumni connect programs on college campuses is crucial for fostering a strong sense of community and mutual support. Such meetings provide current students with invaluable opportunities to network, gain insights from real-world experiences, and seek guidance for their academic and career paths. Alumni, having navigated similar academic journeys, can offer mentorship and share practical wisdom. Moreover, these interactions bridge the gap between academic theory and practical application, inspiring students with tangible success stories. Establishing a continuous link with alumni fosters a sense of pride and loyalty, contributing to the overall development and reputation of the institution.

Thus, it was a nostalgic journey down the memory lane when Sakshi Tickoo and Prakhar Srivastav from the batch of 2017-21 visited their alma mater Apeejay Stya University. These alumni who completed their education from the School Journalism and Mass Communication at Apeejay Stya University relived every moment when they were on campus for the alumni connect session.

This alumni connect programme proved to be about making connections at different levels. The way Prakhar, who is working as the junior output editor in NDTV India, spoke of his four years in the University, especially in the hostel, was endearing to say the least. He made connections with the students who had come to listen to them. Talking about his love for badminton and the time he spent on the court in ASU hostel, his nostalgia was palpable. He further emphasised, “ASU was my second home and it means a lot to me to come back to my alma mater and share my experiences with you all.”Sakshi was a day scholar when pursuing her education at SJMC. She highlighted how her teachers encouraged and inspired her to do well. She confessed that when she dropped out of engineering course to pursue her love for writing and hence journalism she was an introvert. “But how the teachers worked on me was marvellous. They helped me with reading, writing and articulation,” she said. Lastly, she talked to students about different options they have in lifestyle reporting and her role and responsibilities as a senior digital content writer at Economic Times.

The alumni connect session was the most fruitful and engrossing one as current students spent a great time interacting with these alumni.
