Pranjal Kapoor, a class 12 student at Apeejay School, Rama Mandi in Jalandhar, is truly versatile. The word ‘multi-talented’ would indeed do justice to her. From rapping to graphic design to hip-hop and even badminton, Ms Kapoor aces it all. In a quick informal conversation, the commerce student mentions what got her interested in rapping and hip-hop,tells about  her role models in badminton and the desire to make a career in graphic design. Read edited excerpts:

How did your interest in rapping come about? Do you follow any contemporary rappers?

I started listening to English songs in class 9.  I just loved the peppy beats and contemporary style in them. Gradually with the course of time, I started to listen to hip hop songs more than other genres and I really liked them. Rather, I loved them to be honest! That’s how I found my passion in rapping.  And yes, I love listening to Blackpink and (G)I-dle girl’s bands.

But how did graphic designing come into your life? Do you aim for a career in it?

Graphic designing is an upbeat career move. It is very promising as a profession and I do want to pursue it as a career prospect. So, I started designing during the lockdown and there has been no turning back since then. Besides, I have always loved digital art, especially anime – the Japanese animations.

You love badminton a lot as well right? Are you inspired by India’s female badminton players?

I love badminton a lot. Every day, I practice badminton for at least an hour. I simply love this sport, it has taught me so much about life, given me a winning mentality and competitive attitude. My inspiration in badminton is PV Sindhu, and her matches and supreme athletic performance motivates me to play more.

You also do hip-hop dance forms! Tell us how you got interested in it?

Dance is my favourite de-stresser. I love doing hip-hop and freestyle. I have loved dancing since a very young age, and I used to and still participate in dance competitions where I can show my style. Dance has freed me from various inhibitions in my life and I love to practice this craft.

Finally! How does your school support you to pursue these multiple talents?

My school organises many functions and competitions where I get to perform. I really like these opportunities the school is providing to us students. I am deeply grateful to the school, its teachers and all my classmates.
