The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has introduced 19 free online technology courses for students of Classes 8 to 12, offering them an early opportunity to explore emerging fields such as Artificial Intelligence, data science, cybersecurity, cloud computing and programming.

The initiative, launched through the NIELIT Digital University (NDU) platform, aims to equip school students with future-ready digital skills. Students can register for the courses online without paying any enrolment fee and can learn at their pace.

The course catalogue includes introductory and advanced modules in Artificial Intelligence, Generative AI, Python Programming, Data Science, Internet of Things (IoT), Cloud Computing, Cybersecurity, Web Designing and Publishing, Computer Concepts, Semiconductor Design, VLSI Design Flow, Chip Design, 3D Printing and Additive Manufacturing.

Students can also explore specialised industry-orientated courses like AWS DevSecOps, RTL, IP Integration, SoC Signoff, ChipCraft, Deep Craft Studio and Introduction to Generative AI.

Designed to make technology education more accessible at the school level, the courses combine conceptual learning with practical exposure. They are expected to help students build foundational knowledge in areas that are increasingly shaping higher education and career pathways in engineering, computer science, information technology, and artificial intelligence.

The duration of the courses varies according to the topic and level of complexity. While some beginner-level modules take about one-and-a-half hours to complete, advanced courses may take 20 hours or more.

Students can choose courses based on their interests, academic goals, and available time. The flexible, self-paced format allows learners to study independently and revisit concepts as required.

To enrol, students must visit the NIELIT Digital University online portal, complete the registration process, and select the course they wish to pursue.

With this initiative, CBSE is seeking to encourage students to engage with new-age technologies early and develop the digital competencies needed for a rapidly evolving world.
