A young badminton player displayed remarkable grit, focus, and sporting spirit at the 46th Open Faridabad District Badminton Championship 2026, earning recognition in both singles and doubles events. However, her achievements don’t end here. She won the First Young Aces Badminton Tournament 2025, organised by the KL Mehta Badminton Academy, last year. Meet Naira Kohli, a Class V student of Apeejay School, Sector 15, Faridabad.
In a candid interview, she shares her next goal in the sport, among other things.
Which win felt more special, singles or doubles?
I enjoyed both matches; both are special. However, the doubles win felt more special because I was playing to win for my partner, who unfortunately could not qualify for the singles finals, and we were crowned champions in the doubles category.
How did you stay focused for both events?
I was nervous before both events, but I managed to stay calm thanks to the advice and blessings from my coach, parents, friends, and fellow players.
What did doubles teach you about teamwork?
I have learnt the importance of communication, coordination, and understanding of our strengths and weaknesses as a team.

Which match tested you the most?
Most of the matches were tough and tested me. However, the one that stands out is the quarter-final match in the singles category, wherein I was trailing by a game, and it was a close fight in the second and third games.
What has improved most in your game?
I was a defensive player earlier; my defensive game was stronger than my attacking game. Over time and with regular training, my attacking game improved. There is also an improvement in the quality of my strokes, fitness, and strength.
What is your next badminton goal?
I have qualified for the main draw of the state championship later this year, and my immediate goal is to perform well.
