When it comes to choosing the perfect school for their kids, parents look at several parametres. The most important is the brand value that the school has and how the teachers are. Another important aspect that parents look for is proximity to home. For a lot of people, a nearby school holds a lot of importance. This allows the child to pursue his interest outside of the school hours. Meet Kirti Makheeja, who works with BSNL as a senior sub-divisional engineer but is on a sabbatical.
“I chose Apeejay School, Saket because we live near the school. Also, the school has brand value and is known to have the best teachers. Both these were important for us. It was natural that I send both my children to this school. Last year, I got my younger daughter, Dhruvika Khullar admitted to the nursery as well. My elder daughter, Sharanya, has just been promoted to class I,” Makheeja said.
Excerpts from an interview.
How was your elder daughter’s result?
She did very well. She had taken the Olympiad as well and got three gold medals in English, Science, and Math. I had taught her all three subjects. I am happy that she had done so well. I am blessed that both my daughters are good in their studies.
What is the teaching methodology?

It is very good. This is what makes it easy for my daughters to learn things and gain knowledge faster. I am very happy with the progress that they are making. They come back home enthusiastically and share what they had studied that day. It is nice to see their interest in studies and learning new things.
What are some of the activities they have participated in?
They had taken part in the recently organised Mother’s Day; there was a carnival that was held last year as well; both my daughters had participated in a show and won a prize each. I was thrilled with that.

How are the parent-teacher meetings?
They are held regularly and we get proper feedback from them about my daughters. Besides these meetings, if I have a concern and raise it, the teachers listen to me with intent and ensure that they try to address my concerns. My younger daughter’s class teacher is excellent; I always had a picture of how a nursery teacher should be, she fits the bill to a T. She is so good with the tiny tots. This is their first year in the school and if the child follows what the teacher has said, it is amazing.

What are some of the changes that you have seen in your daughters?
There are stark changes in my younger daughter. Before going to school, she would rarely listen to what I had to say and be stubborn. But now, she is extremely obedient and listens to what I have to say. This is thanks to her teachers at the school. My daughter tells me that since ma’am has asked to do this, she is doing it. There are so many other things that she has learnt in the last year, it is amazing!
You are working. How do you spend quality time with them?
Yes, I was working but when my younger daughter was born I took a sabbatical. This made it possible for me to spend time with both my daughters. However, I will now be going back to work soon. But both my husband and I ensure that we spend as much time as possible with our daughters. Over the weekend, we take our eldest daughter to swimming classes. Last year, she joined skating. We do our best to give as much time as possible.
Would you recommend Apeejay to other parents?

I recommend this school to other parents all the time. Recently, I had recommended this school to a parent; I told them that since the school is nearby it will give the child time to pursue activities outside of the school as well since he will reach home faster.
