The All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) has launched 41 certificate programmes in emerging technology domains to strengthen the expertise of faculty members teaching in technical institutions. The initiative aims to equip educators with advanced, industry-relevant knowledge that can ultimately benefit students pursuing technical education.

The programmes have been introduced under the AICTE-QIP-PG Certificate Programme in Emerging Areas and will focus on rapidly growing fields such as Artificial Intelligence (AI), Machine Learning (ML), Data Science, Data Analytics, and several other advanced technologies shaping the future workforce.

Designed as six-month hybrid courses, the programmes will combine online and offline learning modes and carry a total of 18 academic credits. According to AICTE, the initiative seeks to ensure that faculty members remain updated with technological advancements and are better prepared to deliver modern, industry-aligned education.

To maintain high academic standards, the certificate courses will be offered through premier institutions of national importance, including the Indian Institute of Science (IISc), Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs), National Institutes of Technology (NITs), and Indian Institutes of Information Technology (IIITs). These institutions will provide specialised training in cutting-edge technology domains.

Apart from AI and ML, the programmes will also cover emerging fields such as Cyber Physical Systems, Internet of Things (IoT) and Drone Technology, Intelligent Transport Systems, Robotics, 3D Printing, and Additive Manufacturing. These areas are expected to play a major role in future industrial growth and technological transformation.

The programmes are specifically designed for the professional development of faculty members from core engineering disciplines. As per AICTE guidelines, full-time, regular, and permanent faculty members working in AICTE-approved degree and diploma institutions are eligible to apply.

Applications are open for the July–December 2026 academic session, and interested candidates can submit their applications until July 5, 2026.

Highlighting the significance of continuous faculty upskilling, AICTE Chairman Yogesh Singh said the initiative reflects the council’s commitment to improving technical education through faculty development. He noted that technologies such as AI, Machine Learning, and Quantum Computing are rapidly transforming industries, making it essential for educators to stay updated with evolving industry demands.

The launch of these programmes marks a significant step towards narrowing the gap between academia and industry requirements.
