Apeejay Institute of Mass Communication (AIMC), Dwarka, welcomed its incoming batch of students with an inspiring Orientation Programme that brought together eminent academicians, celebrated industry professionals, students and parents. The inaugural ceremony reflected AIMC’s commitment to nurturing socially responsible, creative and industry-ready media professionals through meaningful interactions with accomplished practitioners and distinguished alumni.

The programme commenced with a welcome note by the AIMC faculty, Prof. Sukriti Arora, followed by the Welcome Address by Prof. Sajal Mukherjee, Director AIMC, who encouraged students to embrace curiosity, discipline and lifelong learning as they embark on their professional journey. The event also featured a special address by Prof. Ashok Ogra, Advisor, AIMC who shared his perspectives on the evolving media landscape and the importance of developing future-ready communication professionals.

A defining moment of the orientation was the keynote address by acclaimed filmmaker and distinguished AIMC alumnus Amar Kaushik, director of blockbuster films such as Stree, Bhediya and Stree 2. Returning to his alma mater, Kaushik reflected on his inspiring journey from the classrooms of AIMC to becoming one of India’s most celebrated filmmakers. Encouraging students to observe people, cultures and everyday life with curiosity, he said that powerful stories emerge from authentic experiences and careful observation. He urged aspiring media professionals to remain original, embrace experimentation and pursue their passion with courage and perseverance. His candid interaction and engaging question-and-answer session with students offered valuable insights into the creative process behind storytelling and filmmaking.

AIMC celebrated Amar Kaushik’s remarkable achievements as a reflection of the institute’s enduring legacy of nurturing creative talent that continues to shape the Indian media and entertainment industry. His homecoming served as a source of inspiration for the new batch, demonstrating how dedication, creativity and resilience can transform aspirations into success.

The programme also featured a special address by Prof. (Dr.) K.G. Suresh, Director IHC and Professor Emeritus, AIMC who encouraged students to combine strong ethical values with professional excellence while adapting to the rapidly changing media ecosystem driven by technological innovation and evolving audience expectations.

Addressing the gathering as the Guest of Honour, Shams Tahir Khan, Managing Editor of Aaj Tak and Crime Tak, shared valuable lessons from his distinguished career in investigative journalism. Drawing upon decades of field experience, he highlighted the importance of ethical journalism, professional accountability and factual reporting in safeguarding public trust. He emphasised the need for journalists to maintain a balanced approach while reporting on law enforcement agencies, reminding students that responsible journalism requires fairness, integrity and an unwavering commitment to truth. His interactive session provided aspiring journalists with practical insights into the realities and responsibilities of contemporary news reporting.

The inaugural ceremony concluded with an interactive faculty session involving students and parents, introducing them to AIMC’s academic philosophy, curriculum, institutional culture and experiential learning environment. Faculty members familiarised the new batch with the institute’s emphasis on academic rigour, industry engagement, innovation, ethical communication and holistic professional development.

The first day of the Orientation Programme set an inspiring tone for the new academic session, reaffirming AIMC’s commitment to preparing future media professionals who are creative, socially conscious and equipped to lead the evolving world of communication with competence, integrity and purpose.
