For students, understanding science goes beyond learning theories, studying diagrams, and preparing for examinations. It also involves seeing how scientific knowledge is applied, how research is conducted, and how discoveries contribute to a better understanding of the world. Exposure to research institutions can make these connections clearer, particularly for young learners who are beginning to explore their interests in science.

With this objective, students of Apeejay School, Saket, visited the National Institute of Immunology (NII), New Delhi. The educational visit gave them an opportunity to explore scientific research and understand its relevance beyond the classroom.

Exploring the world of scientific research

During the visit, students gained insights into immunology, vaccine development, and molecular biology. These areas of science play an important role in understanding the human body’s immune system and the biological processes associated with health and disease.

A major aspect of the visit was the opportunity to explore advanced laboratories and interact with scientists. For students who largely encounter scientific concepts through textbooks, the experience offered a closer look at the environment in which research takes place.

The interaction with scientists also introduced them to the work involved in scientific research. It helped connect subjects studied at school with their practical applications, making the learning experience more meaningful.

Encouraging curiosity beyond classrooms

Such educational visits offer students a different perspective on learning. Seeing research facilities and gaining an understanding of scientific work can encourage them to think critically, ask questions, and develop a deeper interest in the subjects they study.

The visit to NII was an opportunity for the students to look beyond theoretical knowledge and appreciate the role of research in scientific progress.

More importantly, the experience encouraged curiosity, discovery, and innovation, giving young learners an opportunity to consider the possibilities that science holds for their future.
