Studying in classes 6 and 2 respectively, Sushma Kour’s children Tejveer and Sukriti have shown overall progress and the credit for that goes to their teachers at Apeejay International School, Greater Noida. Even the school principal takes a personal interest in the students’ development, says the mother-of-two. In an interview, Sushma, coordinator and admission counsellor in Little Angel School, talks about what makes Apeejay an ideal seat of learning. Edited excerpts:
Why did you opt for Apeejay School, Greater Noida?
Apeejay has higher education institutions apart from schools and that is what encouraged us to enroll our elder son. That way he can continue his education in Apeejay even after completing school. Since we were happy with his progress at the school, we decided to enroll our daughter too.
What has your experience with the teachers been like?
I have a good rapport with the teachers. In fact, I continue to share a good bond with my son’s first teacher in nursery. The teachers have always been very supportive and helpful, from sharing timely feedback to addressing our concerns. Not just the teachers, I am very impressed with the school principal Dr Sarita Pande as well. The way she manages the staff and parents is proof of her incredible leadership skills. We get to interact with her at regular intervals, which, in itself, is reassuring. She also knows my children personally.
What kind of improvements have you seen in your children?
Tejveer is quite outspoken; he interacts with the teachers quite freely. I am seeing a similar development in Sukriti as well. She has begun to engage actively in the class. Most importantly, the teachers listen to the students and that makes a lot of difference. If a student feels that he or she is being heard, it boosts their confidence and develops their interest in learning.
The other significant development that I have noticed in my children is that they prefer writing answers on their own instead of depending on the teacher to dictate them. This practice is in fact encouraged by their teachers. Writing answers independently also means that they have a clear understanding of the concepts they learn. My son’s handwriting has also improved, thanks to his teacher.
Does that mean the teaching methods used in class are benefitting them?
Absolutely! Activity-based learning at Apeejay is a great approach. Only reading theories in books does not always help.
How is Apeejay shaping your children’s personalities?
The school is inculcating good values and etiquette in children. Their communication skills and confidence level have also improved. The teachers give them a lot of exposure by encouraging them to participate in various activities.
