Shiv Kumar Gupta, captain, Air India, says that the teachers at Apeejay Svran Global School, where his daughter Yashita studies, are putting in their best efforts in the online classes to educate students. In an interview, the class 8 student’s father shares how the school has helped in his daughter’s progress. Edited excerpts:

Your daughter has been studying at Apeejay Svran Global since kindergarten. What has the overall experience been like?

Apeejay Svran Global is a very good institution, particularly in terms of the academic environment and discipline. Initially, there was no plan as such to enroll my daughter here. However, my wife Tanya and I were well aware of how big a brand Apeejay is; my niece and nephew are already studying in another Apeejay School. So, we happened to visit Svran Global and liked the school very much.

What kind of developments have you seen in Yashita?

There has been an overall development. The activities in school have had a positive impact on my child. Prior to the pandemic, she participated in a lot of co-curricular activities like sports, shloka competition, dance, and so on.

What do you think of the pedagogy?

It is all up to the mark. Apart from theoretical learning, the teachers also show students how to implement the concepts in their daily lives. Any additional learning beyond the curriculum is always good.

Have the online classes been beneficial?

While there is no alternative to offline classes, from what I have seen, Apeejay teachers are taking the initiative to teach in the best way possible in virtual classrooms. Yashita, too, is trying to the best of her ability.

Do teachers keep parents informed about their child’s progress?

We have in-person Parent Teacher Meetings (PTM) at regular intervals, which are helpful. The interactions have been very good so far. They also call us on the phone to keep us up to date. The teachers are always attentive, and they make the best of their efforts to impart knowledge.

How well is your daughter managing the exams?

The exams are fine. My daughter has never really complained about the syllabus. In fact, she manages her studies herself, without any additional coaching. We have also never found our daughter to be overburdened with academics or under any stress. She enjoys her classes and is in regular touch with all teachers.

What do you think of the management as a whole?

We have never faced any problems. I met the staff personally and found them to be very good. They always pay heed to every little suggestion from parents and get things done accordingly. In fact, we might soon be moving to Delhi from Faridabad, and we have already made up our minds to move Yashita to another Apeejay School, preferably Panchsheel Park. I am very happy with Apeejay.

Apeejay schools are known to help students develop cultural consciousness. What is your opinion?

Absolutely! From time to time, the school organises festivals and events to educate children about their culture. As a parent, it is great to see your daughter getting to know her roots closely. The main purpose of putting your child into a good institution is to see that their development is holistic.
