As the early morning sun bathed Apeejay School in Model Town with golden rays, the campus buzzed with the spirit of Earth Day. This special day was not just a celebration but a call to action, emphasising the critical role of environmental stewardship. The event titled “Seeds of Change” was designed to inspire both the young and the old to forge a deeper connection with our planet.

The day began with a vibrant assembly in the hall, setting the tone with a warm welcome to the esteemed chief guest, Ms Navsandeep Kaur Multani, Zonal Commissioner of the Municipal Corporation, Jalandhar. Following the traditional school prayer led by the choir, the assembly hall was filled with an air of anticipation and excitement.

The Chief Guest also planted a tree and interacted with the students. The assembly also included the presentation of awards to the winners of the Inter-house Poetical Recitation in both English and Hindi. Tokens of appreciation were given to students who had expressed their environmental concerns through art, showcasing their posters themed around Earth Day.

Addressing the students, the Chief Guest said:  “I want Earth Day to be a reminder to all that every small action counts.” She also shared inspiring tales from her commitment to the environment, including her ongoing efforts to plant trees and make sustainable choices.

The school choir, under the guidance of Ms Amita, delivered a stirring musical performance that captured the beauty and fragility of Earth. Their melodious voices were a poignant reminder of what we stand to lose if we do not take care of our planet.

Himansh from class IX took the stage to introduce the theme “Sow the Seeds of Change.” With passion and conviction, he discussed the significant impact of small, everyday actions in combating environmental degradation.

The emotional weight of the day was further anchored by a poignant poem recited by Hardik Garg from class IX, which celebrated the interconnectedness of all life forms. This was followed by “Earth News,” a segment highlighting recent environmental achievements and challenges, enhancing the educational aspect of the assembly.

If this was not enough, tiny tots of classes I and II took one step closer to understanding Mother Earth. The students exhibited their love for earth, by embracing the trees on the school campus. They had hands-on experience of getting close to nature.

The event closed with words of gratitude from the officiating Principal, Ms Priyanka Grover. She emphasised that environmental slogans should resonate not just on paper but in our hearts. She commended the efforts of the staff and students in organizing the event and encouraged continuous motivation toward improving our planet.

As the assembly came to a close, everyone stood to sing the National Anthem, a unifying moment that reinforced the community’s commitment to preserving our Earth. The event at Apeejay School was not just a day of learning but a step forward in nurturing the seeds of change for a sustainable future.
