The students of The School of Design and Visual Arts (SDVA) at Apeejay Stya University (ASU) left an indelible mark at Comicon 2024, one of the nation’s most prominent pop culture events. Held from December 6 to December 8 at the NSIC Grounds, Okhla, the much-anticipated gathering brought together fans, creators, and industry professionals from across the country.
A team of 23 enthusiastic students from ASU-SDVA volunteered for the three-day extravaganza, showcasing their dedication and skills in various event management roles. Under the guidance of Ms Swati Atreya, a faculty member from the Graphic Design Department, the students took charge of key responsibilities, including managing the Game Arena, handling Damage Control, welcoming visitors, ticketing, celebrity management, stage management, and conducting research.
Their efficiency and professionalism did not go unnoticed, as they left a lasting impression on the Comicon 2024 organising team. The experience proved to be a gateway for the students to delve into the complexities of event management while actively participating in one of India’s largest cultural events.

Learning Through Immersive Experiences
Students reflected on their experiences with enthusiasm, highlighting the dynamic environment of Comicon. “Volunteering at Comic-Con Delhi 2024 was an absolute blast! As part of the ticketing team, I loved welcoming each attendee with a high-five and a burst of energy, guiding them through the process, and ensuring a smooth entry. The energy and enthusiasm of the crowd were contagious, and it was rewarding to see the smiles on their faces,” shared Jayati Mehta, a Graphic Design seventh-semester student.
For Aleena Rehman, who worked as the Gaming Admins Manager at the Lenovo desk, the event was both exciting and challenging. “My main responsibility was managing the registration for the Tekken 8 Tournament. It was a fantastic opportunity to learn more about event management and gaming communities while improving my organisational and communication skills,” she said.
Another student, Arnav, shared how his multi-faceted roles taught him invaluable lessons. “On the first day, I managed a gaming booth, and on the second, I worked with the Damage Control team, assisting cosplayers and reuniting lost children with their parents. On the final day, I joined the Celebrity Management team, ensuring the safety and comfort of the attending celebrities. Each role honed my skills in crowd management, conflict resolution, and adaptability,” he reflected.

Recognising Excellence
As a token of appreciation, all volunteers were presented with exclusive goodies and certificates for their outstanding contributions. The Comicon 2024 team also commended the ASU-SDVA students for their enthusiasm and professionalism throughout the event, further elevating the university’s reputation.
The initiative underscores the institute’s commitment to experiential learning, equipping students with practical skills and industry insights. By participating in an event of this magnitude, the students not only honed their capabilities but also expanded their professional networks.

The involvement in Comicon 2024 has been a proud achievement for Apeejay ASU, reflecting its emphasis on bridging academic learning with real-world applications. The university looks forward to encouraging more such collaborations that foster skill-building and innovation.
As ASU-SDVA continues to champion immersive learning experiences, the success at Comicon 2024 serves as an inspiring milestone for students and faculty alike.
