Apeejay College of Fine Arts (ACFA), Jalandhar, observed Suicide Prevention Week 2026 through a series of meaningful activities organised by the Psychology Forum and ‘The Listening Room’. Centred around the theme “Every Story Deserves a Tomorrow,” the week-long initiative sought to promote mental health awareness, encourage open conversations about emotions and create a supportive environment where every individual feels heard, understood and valued.
The programme brought together creativity, self-expression and meaningful interaction, offering students different avenues to reflect on emotions and communicate their thoughts. The activities were designed to reinforce the importance of empathy, emotional awareness and reaching out for support during challenging times.

A Poster-Making Competition provided students with a creative platform to express messages of hope, courage and positivity. Through colours, imagery and thoughtful concepts, participants highlighted the importance of optimism and emotional support. The Slogan-Writing Competition further encouraged students to convey messages of empathy, awareness and support through concise and impactful expressions.
An Open Mic Session added another dimension to the initiative by providing students with a welcoming space to share their thoughts and creative expressions. The platform encouraged participants to articulate their perspectives and engage in an atmosphere of listening and understanding.
A special highlight of the week was the launch of The Science of Feeling, a psychology-based poetry collection exploring emotions, coping and inner healing. The book brought together psychological insights and poetic expression, offering another meaningful way to engage with themes related to emotional well-being and self-reflection.
The initiative also brought together former office-bearers of the Psychology Forum as special guests. Their presence added an element of connection and reflection to the programme, enabling the current student community to engage with those who had previously contributed to the forum and its activities.

Principal Dr. Neerja Dhingra emphasised the importance of treating mental health with the same attention and seriousness as physical health. She encouraged students to seek support from their families, teachers or mental health professionals whenever required. Her message reinforced the importance of creating an environment where seeking help is viewed as a positive and responsible step.
The week also highlighted the role educational institutions can play in fostering conversations around emotional well-being. By creating spaces for expression and listening, the initiative encouraged students to recognise the value of empathy and supportive relationships.
The college appreciated the dedicated efforts of Ms. Niharika Mazumdar and Ms. Harjas Kaur, along with all the students who contributed to making the initiative meaningful and impactful.
Through “Every Story Deserves a Tomorrow,” ACFA reaffirmed the importance of listening, empathy and support, while encouraging the community to create spaces where every voice is heard, every emotion is respected and every individual feels valued.
