Students of Apeejay Institute of Management & Engineering Technical Campus (AIMETC), Jalandhar, participated in an online student development programme (SDP). The programme was held to apprise students on how to start investing and its operational aspects-one. The session was organised under the aegis of the Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) and the NISM Club as part of the NISM Student Development Programme Series.

The session was addressed by CA (Dr.) Pinky Agarwal, who introduced students to the fundamentals of investing and the operational aspects involved in beginning an investment journey. The programme focused on helping students understand the processes and basic requirements associated with investing.

A key part of the session was an overview of the know your customer (KYC) process and the procedure for opening and linking Demat, trading and bank accounts. Students were also guided on navigating investment platforms and were introduced to various investment products, including stocks, mutual funds and bonds.

The programme also emphasised the importance of approaching investments from a long-term and analysis-based perspective rather than focusing on short-term speculative trading. The session further familiarised students with different categories of investors, including Conservative, Moderate, Aggressive, Ultra-HNI and Institutional investors, along with investment products considered suitable for different investor profiles.

Students were introduced to financial instruments such as Public Provident Fund (PPF), Fixed Deposits (FD), Debt Mutual Funds, Balanced Mutual Funds, National Pension System (NPS), Direct Equity and Government Securities (G-Secs). The discussion provided students with an overview of the different avenues through which individuals and institutions can approach investment and financial planning.

Dr. Rajesh Bagga, Director, AIMETC appreciated the initiative and encouraged students to apply their learning about financial literacy to their personal financial planning. He also motivated them to continue participating in such capacity-building programmes.

Dr. Anu Sahi, IQAC Coordinator commended the efforts of the NISM Club members — Parmjit Kaur, Rohan Mahajan, Jahanvi Arora, Preetkamal and Janki — for facilitating student participation in knowledge-driven initiatives.

The programme highlighted the role of financial literacy in helping students develop a basic understanding of investment processes and make informed approaches to personal financial planning. Through such student development initiatives, the institute continues to provide learners with opportunities to build knowledge beyond their regular academic curriculum.
