Many experts argue that (God forbid) if there is a third world war, it shall be due to water-crisis. Well, water is the very essence of life. It holds our life and the life around in nature. Water indeed is the first and greatest pacifist symbol. Water stands for peace. One does not wish to see a world where water leads to water.

While the common man is indeed engaging in many small acts of water conservation in their daily lives, be it not keeping the tap open during brushing or shower time, or watering plants and washing cars with a bucket but still there exist many larger occasions to safeguard where water is wasted on a large scale.

One such occasion is Holi!

Holi, the vibrant festival of colours, traditionally involves playful splashes of water and colourful powders that mark the arrival of spring and the triumph of good over evil. However, in recent years, there has been a growing awareness about the environmental impact of water wastage and chemical-laden colours during Holi celebrations. Thankfully, there are numerous eco-friendly alternatives that allow us to revel in the joy of Holi while minimising our ecological footprint.

One of the most iconic aspects of Holi is the vibrant colors that adorn participants from head to toe. Instead of using synthetic dyes that can harm the environment, opt for natural and eco-friendly gulal made from ingredients such as turmeric, beetroot, and dried flower petals. These natural colors not only add a splash of vibrancy to your celebrations but also nourish and moisturise the skin, making them a safe and sustainable choice for Holi revelers of all ages.

Another eco-friendly way to celebrate Holi is by incorporating the beauty of flowers into your festivities. Instead of dousing each other with water, exchange fragrant flower petals with friends and family, creating a kaleidoscope of colors and scents that evoke the essence of spring.

Whether it’s traditional marigold petals or exotic blooms like roses and jasmine, flower play adds a touch of elegance and eco-consciousness to your Holi celebrations, while also fostering a deeper connection with nature.

Sandalwood paste has long been revered in Indian culture for their auspicious properties and therapeutic benefits. Harness the power of these natural ingredients during your Holi festivities by creating fragrant pastes and powders that can be applied to the skin.

Not only does sandalwood paste impart a radiant glow to your complexion, but it also possesses anti-inflammatory and antibacterial properties, making them ideal for soothing and protecting the skin during Holi revelries.

For those seeking a minimalist approach to Holi celebrations, consider embracing the concept of playing Holi with turmeric paste. A great antiseptic natural substance for the skin, turmeric increases the fun of Holi and also doesn’t let one feel the absence of water.

At the end of the day, one must focus on the joy of camaraderie and togetherness of Holi, indulging in traditional sweets, savory snacks, and lively music with loved ones.

So, engage in playful activities such as singing and dancing, sharing laughter and stories, and strengthening bonds of friendship and community, all while leaving behind a minimal environmental footprint.
