To mark World Monuments and Heritage Sites Day, students of Classes VI to VIII from Apeejay School, Saket, visited the Red Fort in Delhi as part of an initiative organised by ITIHAAS. The visit aimed to build awareness about India’s cultural legacy while helping students connect classroom learning with lived experience.
The Red Fort, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, offered students a close view of the country’s architectural and historical richness. Walking through its corridors and open spaces, students engaged with the site not as visitors alone, but as observers trying to understand its relevance in the present day.
Learning through observation and creation
The experience extended beyond the visit. Students were encouraged to reflect on what they saw and translate it into creative work. They designed brochures, posters, and heritage stamps that highlighted the importance of preserving monuments.

This process helped them move from passive learning to active participation. By presenting their ideas visually, they explored how awareness can be built in simple and effective ways. Teachers noted that such activities allow students to think critically about heritage, rather than viewing it as distant history.
The initiative also introduced students to the idea that heritage conservation is a shared responsibility. Through guided observation and creative expression, they began to see monuments not just as historical structures, but as living reminders of collective identity.
Activities like these play a role in shaping informed and responsible citizens. As students return to their classrooms, the experience stays with them, encouraging a deeper respect for history and a clearer understanding of their role in preserving it for the future.
