The government in India has been actively promoting skill development through initiatives like Skill India, encouraging more students to opt for skill-based programmes like BVoc. These courses often include on-the-job training and internships, giving students real-world experience and helping them understand industry practices better.
BVoc programmes focus on developing practical skills and knowledge required for specific industries or job roles. This prepares students for the job market and increases their employability. Also, the programmes are designed to meet the specific needs of industries, graduates often have better job prospects compared to graduates of traditional academic courses. The icing on the cake is that the courses are recognised by the University Grants Commission and are offered by many reputable universities and colleges across India including Apeejay College of Fine Arts (ACFA).
The best part about studying at ACFA is that it offers a specific Data Science programme. It is a three-year undergraduate course comprising six semesters with multiple exit options. According to Dr Kewal Krishan Nailwal, Assistant Professor, Department of Mathematics, the Data Science curriculum includes Descriptive Statistics, Database Management System, Data Entry using S-Word and MS-Excel, MS-Access, Communication skills in English, Introduction to Data Science, Basic Mathematics, Practical Based on Programming in R, and Optimization Theory.
“Then there is Business Economics Theory, Statistical Inference, Data Mining Theory, Practical based on SAS, Introduction to Python, Basics of Linear Algebra and Numerical Analysis, Algorithms and Heuristics, Big Data Analytics using R, Programming Lab based on Numerical Analysis, Artificial Intelligence, and Neural Networks,” Dr Krishan said.
Another reason to study at ACFA is that the institute offers opportunities for research and or internships in Data Science. “The college assists the internships through Internshala and helps students with placements also. The students also learn various software and software tools during the course,” Dr Krishan explained.
The college also prepares students for the latest trends and advancements in Data Science. The institute motivates students to attend online MOOC courses through the Swayam portal. The workshops are organised to give students a leading edge, Dr Krishan said.
And added that the students get an opportunity to work on real-world projects or collaborate with faculty on research. “The students during the projects work on real-world problems,” he said.
Students interested in pursuing Data Science have regular scholarships made available at ACFA. Students can either call Navleen Kaur (8283925644) and or Isha (6280792643) to know more about the programme as well as scholarships.
