According to the India Brand Equity Foundation, the healthcare sector market size in 2020 stood at a whopping $280 billion! The incremental growth of the industry is expected at 22.87 per cent in the next few years. This fast-pace will bring in a lot of opportunities. Therefore, this is the right time to take up a programme related to this sector – this can be a degree or a Bachelor of Vocation (BVoc) course.

Degree programmes offer broad academic knowledge, while BVoc programmes focus on specific vocational skills, industry relevance, and employability. Given the fact that employers are looking for professionals who are industry-ready, pursuing BVoc is advantageous.

BVoc is a vocational education programme introduced in India to bridge the gap between traditional academic programmes and industry requirements. These courses focus on practical training, skill development, and industry-specific knowledge, preparing students for employment in specific sectors especially healthcare management.

BVoc in Healthcare Management can open doors to entrepreneurial ventures in the healthcare domain. With the increasing focus on innovation and start-ups, students can leverage their knowledge and skills to establish their healthcare-related businesses like healthcare consulting firms, health tech startups, or healthcare service providers, addressing specific gaps and challenges in the healthcare industry.

According to Dr Neeraj Katyal, Assistant Professor and HoD, Department of Physiotherapy and BVoc (Healthcare Management) at Apeejay College of Fine Arts, the healthcare management course deals with handling administrative tasks and managing a healthcare institute. “Every healthcare organisation needs professionals who can look after office operations, accounting, marketing, PR, inventory management, HR management, and customer satisfaction to name a few. One can even become a dean/director of a medical college or a hospital superintendent or medical director or even healthcare finance managers,” Dr Katyal said.

A few sectors where graduates can work are health agencies, nursing homes, rehabilitation centres, hospitals (private and government), health insurance organisations, medical software companies and hospital consulting firms, Dr Katyal shared.

Salary structure

The salary is governed by the location, profile and the skills and years of experience of the employee. “Usually to begin with, depending on the location, one can get Rs 3.6 lakh to Rs 6 lakh per annum. However, with experience, the salary increases,” Dr Katyal said and added that the healthcare Industry is booming at present.

“The healthcare sector has been reported to be the highest paying sector. For those looking for opportunities abroad, places like Canada, US and Australia are good options. Students can study and work in India for a couple of years then can apply direct for permanent residence abroad. Apart from the hospital there is a huge scope in the healthcare business and healthcare IT consulting space,” Dr Katyal said.

While there are several institutes that offer a BVoc in Healthcare Management, studying at Apeejay College of Fine Arts (ACFA), Jalandhar is undoubtedly the best choice for several compelling reasons. First, the college has a highly reputable faculty comprising experienced professionals and experts in the field of health care management. “Second, ACFA prioritises hands-on training and practical exposure for its students.
