There is an adage by Mahatma Gandhi, Father of the Nation: A nation’s culture resides in the hearts and souls of its people. There is no denying that excursions organised by schools are not merely a break from the classroom routine, rather they play a pivotal role in the holistic development of school students. These outings offer a wealth of educational opportunities beyond the confines of textbooks and classrooms.

Exposing young minds to diverse cultures fosters tolerance, empathy, and global awareness. Hence, on April 18, 2024, as the world celebrated World Heritage Day, students of Apeejay School, Noida had the opportunity to pay homage to the rich diversity of cultures and the multitude of heritage sites scattered across the globe. This special occasion served as a platform for students to deepen their understanding of their own roots and cultural heritage.

Students of classes I to III were introduced to the concept of heritage and explored the rich cultural legacy of India. With great enthusiasm, they delved into researching heritage monuments, uncovering fascinating facts to share with their peers. The active participation of these young learners was truly heartening to witness.

Engaging methods such as PowerPoint presentations, videos, and interactive activities like identifying and coloring monuments, students gained a deeper appreciation for their heritage. Accompanied by their teachers, the students of classes IV and V embarked greatly on an educational excursion to the historic Qutub Minar. Amidst beautifully landscaped gardens, the students beheld the awe-inspiring sight of the majestic tower rising at the heart of the complex.

Witnessing the beautifully constructed red and buff sandstone, the Qutub Minar stands as one of the tallest stone towers globally, a testament to India’s architectural prowess. Recognised for its significance in Indian history, UNESCO has declared it a World Heritage Monument.

The excursion provided an enriching learning experience for all the students, offering them a firsthand encounter with a symbol of their nation’s cultural and historical legacy. It played a vital role in instilling a sense of mindfulness among students regarding their nation’s rich heritage. It inspired them to take on the responsibility of preserving their country’s treasures for the benefit of future generations.

To further engage students and enhance their understanding, a pre-excursion colouring activity and a post-excursion Moodle quiz were also organised, enriching the knowledge about the historical significance of the Qutub Minar for the students of Apeejay School, Noida.
