The Karnataka government has announced plans to establish the Greater Bengaluru Integrated Township (GBIT) at Bidadi, envisioned as the country’s first AI-powered city and Bengaluru’s second central business district. Spread across nearly 9,000 acres, the project will be developed under a work-live-play model, with more than 2,000 acres earmarked for Artificial Intelligence industries and allied sectors.
Addressing officials and farmers in Ramanagara, Deputy Chief Minister D K Shivakumar pledged to build the township with transparency and fair compensation. The township will be connected by a 300-meter-wide business corridor linking STRR, NICE Road, and national highways and will feature over 1,100 acres of parks and open spaces.
Backed by over Rs 20,000 crore, including Rs 2,950 crore from BMRDA and Rs 17,500 crore from financial institutes, the project aims to attract global investors and generate lakhs of jobs for Karnataka’s youth. A model rehabilitation policy promises annual annuities of Rs 30,000–Rs 50,000 per acre for landowners, Rs 25,000 for landless families, and housing or employment support.
First proposed in 2006, the project regained momentum in 2023 and was cleared by the Cabinet in February 2025. Land measurement for acquisition will begin on September 11, 2025, with final notifications expected in December.
