Dr. Kiran Kanwal is a homeopathy doctor. She is the mother of Aadit Kanwal, a class four student at Apeejay School, Pitampura. Her husband Mr. Manish Kanwal is the Regional Sales Manager (North and East India) at Barracuda Networks. In a short interview, Dr Kanwal highlights how her son transformed from a shy boy to a confident student since joining the school. Edited excerpts:

Why did you choose Apeejay Pitampura over other schools for his admission?

We had heard a lot about the academic excellence at Apeejay Pitampura. We tried to enroll, Aadit during the nursery admissions but we didn’t get through the lottery system. However, I always wanted to get my child enrolled at Apeejay Pitampura. I had heard such good reviews about the academic excellence and the high quality teaching there. Fortunately, our child cleared the entrance exam some years later and got enrolled in class 3 at Apeejay  School, Pitampura. Unfortunately, the pandemic started days after his admission. So, he has only attended online classes so far. The school will reopen from April 4 this year and he will get to experience the physical classes from then. The school is near our home which is also a big advantage.

Please tell us a bit about Aadit and take us through his progress at school?

Initially Aadit was a very reticent child. He was intelligent from the very beginning but he was also very shy. After getting enrolled at Apeejay Pitampura, he was provided with an array of opportunities and was highly encouraged by his teachers to participate in the same. He started to open up and later to my astonishment he was always participating in the various activities at school. Be it conducting an assembly or a dance programme or role-play or fancy dress or giving a speech, Aadit was always interested in everything.

He never used to speak or ask questions in the class before. His confidence level has increased manifold since joining Apeejay Pitampura. He is frequently raising his hand in the class and is always eager to answer the question asked. It is the encouragement and love of the teachers that has boosted his confidence.. He has recently joined the skating academy in the school during his session break.  I am very happy to see him bloom in extraordinary ways.

Clearly, the teachers are engaging well with the students. Do you agree?

I totally agree. The teachers are so positive, patient, and helpful. They always put in great efforts to teach the children. They came up with so many innovative methodologies of teaching in the virtual mode. Each and every child is given an equal chance to participate in the class. The teachers encourage every child to speak up in the class. Modern values are inculcated in children in special classes held on Saturdays.

I would like to thank Gunita Ma’am, Aadit’s class teacher in third standard. She was an excellent teacher. She was the one with whose help Aadit was able to step out of his inhibitions. Also, special thanks to Amita  Ma’am . She taught Aadit EVS in class 3. She is an amazing teacher who gave in depth knowledge of the subject to him and sparked his interest in science.

We are really thankful to the teachers and to the entire Apeejay Pitampura school staff for their sincerity and hard work.  Kudos to them for instilling qualities of confidence and motivation in my child. We are so proud to be part of the Apeejay family.

What is the best thing about the school?

I was aware about the academic excellence of the school but when I got Aadit enrolled here, I got to know about the plethora of activities which the school organises. It helps in the holistic development of the student.

Also, the teachers always encourage the students. Even if a student is mediocre in a particular field nevertheless they still encourage the child and give him/her positive reinforcement. So the child feels a sense of comfort while speaking to the teacher and expresses his/her ideas and concerns confidently. I feel this is the USP of the school.

How has the experience of the online classes been for Aadit?

They have been wonderful. I never felt that Aadit has not attended the school physically.  He knows every teacher and every student in his class now. He has made so many friends as well. In online teaching, I did not find much of a difference with the physical classes. It was really an amazing experience.
