How to prepare for a journalism job interview

Aniruddha Jahagirdar, an alumnus of Apeejay Institute of Mass Communication (AIMC), decided to pursue journalism because of his interest in politics. Also, somewhere he found his interest in writing in two languages that is English and Marathi. Recently, Aniruddha bagged a job with ABP Majha, a Marathi news TV channel based in Mumbai. He is  “I am working as a trainee in an editorial department where I work for Breaking News and the Ticker. My journey so far has been fabulous because of the cooperation of my seniors,” he says.

The inspiration

Aniruddha was fascinated by the  way news anchors Ravish Kumar and Ajit Anjum present news or content as well as their style of questioning. “I see them as my role models who inspired me to choose the field of journalism which is known as a fourth pillar of democracy. I follow Ajit Anjum mostly so I go through his videos on his channel and listen to the way he delivers news in the form of a lecture,” says the 22-year-old budding journalist.  

Cracked it with grace  

When asked how he cracked the job interview, Aniruddha emphasised that his focus was to constantly keep himself updated about current affairs and that is one of his strong points which gives him confidence. “This allowed me to showcase my work as well as what I know about the field and that helped me a lot during the interview,” he mentions.

Learning aspirations

“As I am a fresher in the field, so the thing I get to know about the Newsroom on a daily basis, I take it as a new learning. So everything I am doing there is a learning aspiration for me,” says Aniruddha, who believes in doing ethical journalism.

In the coming 5 years, the young journalist sees himself as a news presenter and in a post of Sub-Editor. He also hopes his writing skills will help him reach great heights in the field.
