Apeejay College of Fine Arts (ACFA), Jalandhar, organised a one-day workshop on “Visualisation and Generative AI for Business Decision-Making” through the MAC Forum of its Postgraduate Department of Commerce and Management. The workshop aimed to equip students with practical insights into emerging artificial intelligence technologies and their applications in business, analytics, and decision-making.

Dr Kapil Gupta, Assistant Professor at I.K. Gujral Punjab Technical University, joined the workshop as the resource person. Through an interactive session, he introduced students to various AI technologies, explaining the functions of Cognitive AI, including reasoning and problem-solving, alongside Generative AI, Agentic AI, Computer Vision, and Predictive Analytics. He also discussed their real-world applications and relevance across different business functions.

A significant part of the workshop focused on prompt engineering, context control, task-based commands, and data grounding. Dr Gupta explained how these techniques can help users obtain more relevant and reliable results from AI tools. He also highlighted potential risks, including data leaks, bias, and over-reliance on AI, while discussing the seven principles of Responsible AI. The session emphasised the importance of using emerging technologies ethically and thoughtfully.

Providing students with hands-on learning, Dr Gupta demonstrated how to create interactive dashboards using Tableau from raw data without requiring coding knowledge. The demonstration helped students understand how data visualisation can support the interpretation of information and informed business decisions. By combining conceptual explanations with practical applications, the workshop offered participants a broader understanding of how AI and visualisation tools can be used in professional settings.

Expressing her gratitude to the resource person, Dr Neerja Dhingra, Principal, ACFA, appreciated his ability to explain a technically complex subject in simple and accessible terms. She observed that the knowledge shared during the workshop would benefit students and expressed the institution’s interest in inviting him for future sessions on the subject.

Dr Dhingra also appreciated the efforts of Dr Monika Mogla, Head of the Commerce Department, and Ms Garima Arora, In-charge of the MAC Forum, in organising the workshop. She encouraged them to continue conducting learning initiatives centred on contemporary topics that connect academic knowledge with evolving industry requirements.

The workshop reinforced ACFA’s emphasis on practical, industry-relevant learning. By introducing students to AI applications, data visualisation, and responsible technology use, the initiative encouraged them to explore emerging tools and understand their potential in business decision-making.
