Conferences bridge research and real-world healthcare, fostering innovation, interdisciplinary collaboration, knowledge exchange, and practical solutions to emerging challenges. Acknowledging this, Apeejay Stya University (ASU), Gurugram, hosted the 5th National Conference on “Nanomedicine and Medical Devices in Healthcare.” Organised by the School of Pharmaceutical Sciences, ASU, in association with the Indian Pharmaceutical Association (IPA) and Walter Bushnell Pvt. Ltd., the two-day conference centred on the theme “Nanotechnology & AI Beyond the Lab: Bridging Innovation and Real-World Challenges.”

The conference brought together researchers, academicians, pharmaceutical professionals, industry experts and students from across India to explore the growing convergence of nanotechnology, artificial intelligence, medical devices, drug delivery and emerging healthcare technologies. It recorded more than 250 registrations, with 28 distinguished speakers, 20+ oral presentations, 40+ online presentations and 55 offline presentations. The conference also coincided with World Pharmacists Day 2026, observed under the theme “Empowering Pharmacists for Healthier Futures,” and followed the broader focus of National Pharmacy Week on combating antimicrobial resistance and promoting responsible healthcare practices.

The inaugural ceremony commenced with the traditional lighting of the lamp and Ganesh Vandana. Prof. (Dr.) Anupama Diwan, Dean, School of Pharmaceutical Sciences, welcomed the gathering and highlighted the relevance of research-driven healthcare innovation. Prof. (Dr.) Vijay Vir Singh, Vice-Chancellor, ASU, emphasised the importance of research and innovation in pharmaceutical sciences, while a message from Dr. Neha Berlia, Pro-Chancellor, ASU, stressed the need to translate scientific innovations into affordable and impactful technologies and pharmaceutical solutions. Dr. Amulya K. Panda, FRSC, Associate Director, R&D (Biologicals), Panacea Biotec Ltd., New Delhi, attended as Chief Guest. Prof. (Dr.) Arun Garg, Mr. Vivek Padgaonkar and Mr. Vinod Kumar Arora were the Guests of Honour and delivered expert insights.

The technical sessions examined the potential of nanotechnology and AI to transform medicine and pharmaceutical research. Discussions covered nanoparticles, nano-formulations, lifestyle-related diseases, emerging pharmaceutical innovations and future healthcare technologies. The conference also featured the release of the Abstract Book, containing research abstracts and scientific contributions presented during the event. Panel discussions on “AI-Powered Healthcare: Opportunities, Challenges, and Future Directions” and “From Bench to Bedside: Translating Nanotechnology into Real-World Healthcare Solutions” explored scalability, clinical application and patient-centred outcomes.

Day Two featured discussions on AI, nanotechnology and advanced medical devices, along with a Badge Ceremony and Oath-Taking Ceremony marking World Pharmacists Day. Sessions also examined regulatory and commercialisation challenges, including CDSCO Medical Devices Rules, 2017, US FDA and European Union approaches, quality standards, risk management, biocompatibility, clinical investigations, software validation, usability and cybersecurity. Discussions on traditional knowledge, Ayurveda, Unani, novel drug-delivery systems, nanotechnology, phytomedicines and bioavailability enhancement highlighted the importance of scientific validation and interdisciplinary collaboration.

A special feature was the M. L. Schroff Award, recognising distinguished academicians for contributions to pharmaceutical education and research and honouring the legacy of Prof. Mahadeva Lal Schroff, regarded as the Father of Pharmaceutical Education in India. Poster and oral presentation sessions further provided researchers and students with platforms to showcase their work, receive expert feedback and strengthen scientific communication skills.

The conference recognised outstanding presenters in both categories. Poster awardees included Kajal Yadav, Mohit Kedare, Sayyed Qudsiya Mahreen, Yashika Jangra, Rohit Yadav, Aditya Kumar, Manya Girotra, Som Sarth, Ruchika, Sakshi Sharma and Drishti Goel. Oral Presentation Awards were presented to Ahsan Ali, Ankur Srivastav and Fairy.

The conference concluded with deliberations on patient safety, clinical relevance, regulatory preparedness, affordability, scalability and accessibility. It reinforced the importance of interdisciplinary collaboration in translating scientific discoveries into meaningful societal impact and advancing a healthier, technologically empowered future.
