Recently, Apeejay School, Pitampura, completed the second phase of its Germany exchange programme, a journey that began on 28 May and concluded on 5 June. The visit brought together travel, classroom learning, cultural exploration, and warm family interactions, giving students a chance to understand education beyond familiar spaces. The account shared by the school reflects both the emotional depth and the academic value of the experience.

A journey spanning over two years

The exchange had begun as an idea two years ago, when two schools, separated by distance, started planning through virtual discussions. What followed was careful work around travel, timetables, classroom visits, cultural evenings, and shared learning. The project grew from online conversations into a meaningful international experience.

The journey also began with an unexpected turn when the group missed its Munich to Dresden flight. Instead of becoming a setback, the moment opened the way to explore Munich. The students visited Nymphenburg Palace, the BMW Museum and BMW Welt, and Olympiastadion at Olympiapark, each place offering a different view of Germany’s history, design, sport, and modern imagination.

Learning through homes, classrooms, and cities

The warmth of the German hosts became one of the strongest memories of the visit. From the airport, welcome to staying with German families, where students experience daily life closely. They toured the school, attended classes, played soccer, watched games, and moved around Dresden on foot, tram, and bus.

These everyday moments mattered. They helped students see that cultural understanding often grows quietly, through shared meals, school corridors, small conversations, and friendships that do not need long explanations.

Exploring history, nature, and innovation

The group also visited Saxon Switzerland, known as Sächsische Schweiz, where sandstone peaks, forests, gorges, and the Elbe shaped a memorable outdoor experience. A steamboat ride led them towards the Bastei Bridge, Schwedenlöcher gorges, Amselsee, and Kurort Rathen.

In Berlin, students encountered history through visits to Brandenburg Gate, the Old Ministry of Propaganda, the Holocaust Memorial, Checkpoint Charlie, Gendarmenmarkt, Museum Island, Alexanderplatz, the Jewish Quarter, the first Hebrew cemetery, the New Synagogue, and the East Side Gallery.

Prague added another layer with its Old Town, Charles Bridge, tram ride, and Prague Castle. Leipzig brought together the Porsche Experience Center and the historic Altstadt. At the Technical University of Dresden, students saw Germany’s strength in engineering and technology, along with its connection to Silicon Saxony.

A friendship that continues

What the students brought back was more than souvenirs. They returned with stories, skills, memories, and friendships. The exchange reminded them that education is not limited to classrooms. It is also lived through travel, empathy, shared homes, new languages, and the courage to see the world closely.

As they returned to India, they carried Wilsdruff with them, not only as a place visited but as a bond that would continue beyond this journey.
