Apeejay School of Management (ASM), Dwarka recently organised an online Seminar on Sustainability to raise consciousness of the students towards conserving nature, adopting sustainable lifestyles and contributing their mite in promoting sustainable management practices. Ms Mitanshi Khanna, student of PGDM 2024-26 batch, welcomed the guests and highlighted the importance of regular conversations around the theme of sustainability.

The seminar was organised by Dr Srirang Jha as part of the Corporate Social Responsibility & Sustainability course. Student panellists included Ms Isha Kumari, Mr D. Balaji, Ms Purva Goyal, Ms Dipanshi Gupta, Neha Sheet, and Ms Deepshi. Dr V. Selvarajan, Founder, Green Circle, discussed global concerns like climate emergency, global warming, increasing carbon footprints across the world, rapid urbanisation and rising social inequalities in his inaugural address. He urged the students’ community to come forward to protect nature by taking accountability in small measures in sync with sustainable lifestyles. He also shared the story of how Green Circle, in collaboration with the local community, is trying to resurrect the Avalahalli Lake in northern Bangalore. Dr Aradhana Sharma, core committee member, Hara Jeevan, emphasised the need of waste management in a sustainable manner to conserve nature. She observed that protecting the environment is a constitutional duty of all Indian citizens and we cannot just look up to the government departments and municipalities for resolving issues related to waste management. Corporations can contribute by means of adopting a circular economy while individuals adopt the mantra of reduce, reuse and recycle as far as possible. Dr Sharma showcased small initiatives taken by members of Hara Jeevan in managing waste which  have high impact on reducing carbon footprints of individuals and communities.

Mr Ajit Kumar, Founder, Khushi Gram Foundation, spoke about the importance of organic farming and sustainable lifestyles in combating the adverse impacts of looming climate emergencies leading to loss of health, livelihoods and happiness.
