Meet Mobondeep Singh, a class VIII student at Apeejay School Model Town, who has a deep passion for drawing, especially when it comes to depicting Gods. Recently, he has also developed a passion for writing.

His visit to the Kargil War Memorial profoundly inspired him, as he learnt about the sacrifices soldiers make for the betterment of our future. It made him write more about his experience, which he has subtly penned down in his article: Places in India that will stump you!

Excerpts:

Tell us about yourself.

I have a strong passion for drawing, particularly focusing on depictions of Gods. Additionally, I thoroughly enjoy reading Around the World in 80 Days. I also developed an interest in penning down my thoughts.

How do you feel being selected as scholar journalist of the week for the first time?

I am thrilled and pleasantly surprised by this recognition. It feels like a fantastic opportunity that will help me grow and inspire me to write more frequently. Especially since this is the first article I’ve written and it got selected, it’s incredibly motivating.

Who is your role model?

My role model is my mother. She has always been a guiding light in my life, consistently teaching me the difference between right and wrong. Her wisdom and values have shaped my understanding of integrity and responsibility.

What was your process of researching and writing?

I recently captured my experience in Leh (Ladhak) through my observations and reflections. I wrote the entire article based solely on what I saw and experienced, without any online research. It took me two days to compile and refine everything into a comprehensive and engaging piece.

Any challenges you faced while writing the article? How did you overcome them?

I carefully considered how to incorporate the role of the Army into my article, as their presence in Leh is impressive. I witnessed their heroic efforts in saving lives, which left a significant impact on me. They also provided valuable advice on acclimatising to the high-altitude environment of Ladakh. They recommended spending at least seven days in Leh before heading to Pangong Lake, which is at a higher elevation, to help your body adapt to the surroundings.

Any tips for aspiring writers?

One should write whatever comes to mind, but always from the heart. It’s important to express your feelings with complete honesty and authenticity.
