Certain pressure for studies does well for the students and a balanced approach to preparation, coupled with self-care and stress management techniques, can help you navigate board exam stress more effectively, feels Medhavi Pande whose daughter Prachi Pande studies in class XII at Apeejay School, Noida.
Excerpts from the interview
How did you zero down on Apeejay as an admission choice?
My elder daughter Nehal Pande is also a pass out from Apeejay School, Noida branch so it was obvious that my younger daughter will also go to the same school. Besides that, the school is very close to our home distance wise so it was again helpful. What I liked about this school is the great administration and super-efficient staff.
How is Prachi dealing with the stress due to the upcoming boards?
None of us are under any undue pressure since I know my daughter is a much-sorted child, so that leaves me tension-free too. She took up this stream based on her liking without any pressure from any side. My daughter is introspective and based on her personality and prospects she picked up the subjects of her liking. The only pressure she has is around Math which I am confident she will cope with. We always support her in whatever she does and advise her about the importance of the time around Boards.
What is Prachi doing to keep herself stress-free?
She is a very responsible child. I see her doing various lively activities to keep herself in a good mood and tension-free. She loves listening to music, reading self-motivational books, talking to her friends, or cooking something special for the family. She always makes the best use of her time.
Are the teachers here easy to approach?
As per Prachi’s feedback, she is irrevocably in love with her English teacher. All the teachers here are fantastic. She is also fond of her Math and Psychology teachers as well. Even for us, the teachers are always available for a quick call and respond to all our messages on time. I have noticed that once the child is at senior level, the teachers magnificently transform them into friends for easier connection and bonding with the students. This happened with my elder daughter and now my younger one has also found a great friend in her teachers at the school.
Do you feel your daughter has been impacted holistically at the school?
Definitely! My daughter has always been a voracious reader and loves to read all kinds of books. So once she was in class X she used to interact with her English teacher about books etc. Overall, the school environment has impacted remarkably and helped her to hone her personality growth.
How often do you interact with your daughter?
Everyday! We discussed studies and other activities that she participated in at the school. I am mostly worried about her performance in Math so our discussion focuses a lot on that and apart from that she will talk about her life in general.
How much do you agree with the adage – that school is the second home for a child?
That is 100 per cent true because a child spends the maximum of his/her time at school. The number of hours a child is awake is spent at the school, so I feel that the peer group at the school has the maximum effect on a child’s personality and thinking.
