Educators encourage ethical AI integration in schools

The growing use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) tools like ChatGPT in classrooms has sparked discussions among educators about academic ethics, accuracy, and the future of learning. While concerns remain about misinformation and overdependence on AI-generated content, experts believe that the solution lies not in avoiding AI, but in teaching students how to use it responsibly.
Since its launch by OpenAI in 2022, ChatGPT has become widely popular for its ability to answer questions, summarise information, generate ideas, and assist with creative tasks. Its growing presence in education has prompted teachers and institutions to rethink traditional classroom practices and assignments.
Experts suggest several safe and productive ways students can use AI in learning. These include treating AI as a study companion to explain difficult concepts, using it to review grammar and structure in drafts, creating quizzes and flashcards for revision, practising foreign languages, and summarising lengthy academic material for better understanding.
AI can also improve accessibility by adapting learning material for students with disabilities and simplifying instructions where needed. Educators additionally recommend encouraging students to critically verify AI-generated information and identify potential bias or inaccuracies, helping build stronger information-literacy skills.
According to experts, teachers must now focus on helping students ask better questions, think critically, and develop skills that technology cannot replace. Researchers also believe AI tools can prepare students for future workplaces where analytical thinking and problem-solving will be more valuable than memorisation alone.
