The very essence of the Tricolour was absorbed by the Apeejay School, Panchsheel Park, on Independence Day, with students from pre-Primary to Primary classes bedecked in saffron, white and green. As the students came together to mark this pan-Indian festival and pay respect towards that scintillating history of our country and freedom fighters; all gestures of the heart were done within the premises of the school towards 78 years of freedom of India with a spirit of patriotism that clinched and inspired.

The kindergarteners gave the opening voices to the day. In every way, it was much more than a routine practice, for it was the revelation of pride in an undying legacy — India’s grit and liberty. The Indian Freedom Movement came alive through innocent voices and sincere expressions by little children. Through their words came alive Mahatma Gandhi and Bhagat Singh.
It all ended with a mesmerising dance to the rousing tune of “Jai Ho.” This was the latest powerhouse and enthusiastic way of closing the assembly, leaving the audience—particularly the parents—completely invigorated with thunderous claps in appreciation for the young performances.

Nursery’s Kitchenette Activity
The hitherto uneventful activity of adding zest to the unity in diversity of the nursery class was celebrated through an activity called ‘Kitchenette’. Carefully watched by teachers, children were caught making Tricolour sandwiches. Each layer of carrot, cottage cheese, and cucumber meant much more than making a sandwich as they unfolded the significance of the colours of the Indian Flag. The activity not only celebrated Independence Day but also attempted to inculcate their healthy food habits and foster creativity.

Role Play by Grade 2 Resonates with India’s History
The second-graders were not to be left behind. Historic quotes and shouts of Inquilab Zindabad echoed the aura. These children, at such a tender age, did not just dress up but performed the character — be it of Rani Lakshmibai or others — chanting passionate rhymes, making a point and leaving an impression on the viewer’s mind.
Apeejay School reiterated, time and again, from dawn till dusk that these celebrations remembered the past, learnt from it, and moved on with the lessons. The fact that the school compound was an ash of activities in preparation for the day’s events spoke enough that the day was all about much more than mere revelry — the cost that had been paid for the freedom of India and its ongoing journey of people into a brighter and more inclusive future.

It was evidence not only of historical reflection through the occasion but also a living tribute that is sure to be infused with the spirited energy of the youngest citizens of the nation.
