Apeejay School, Saket celebrates Bastille Day with a French flair

Recently, Apeejay School, Saket, commemorated Bastille Day with great enthusiasm celebrating the rich heritage of France while reinforcing the values of cultural diversity, global citizenship, and multilingual learning. The event served as a vibrant tribute to the French ideals of Liberté, Égalité et Fraternité (Liberty, Equality and Fraternity), inspiring students to appreciate languages and cultures beyond borders.

The celebration was attended by Ms Clothilde Sautrel, Project Officer for Educational and Linguistic Cooperation at the French Institute in India, Embassy of France. She was warmly received by the school Principal, Dr Sujeet Eric Masih, who welcomed the distinguished guest and highlighted the significance of international cultural exchanges in nurturing globally aware learners.

The programme featured a series of engaging performances that reflected the students’ enthusiasm for the French language and culture. Students confidently presented informative segments on the history and significance of Bastille Day, offering insights into one of France’s most important national celebrations. Their presentations highlighted the importance of freedom, equality, and fraternity as universal values that continue to inspire societies around the world.

Adding a musical charm to the occasion, students presented a soulful rendition of the popular French song Ma Philosophie, demonstrating their linguistic skills and appreciation for French music. The audience was further captivated by an energetic French dance performance, which brought alive the spirit and vibrancy of French culture through graceful movements and colourful expressions.

Addressing the gathering, Ms Sautrel appreciated the students’ confidence, creativity, and command of the French language. She encouraged them to embrace multilingualism as a gateway to new opportunities and deeper cultural understanding, emphasising the importance of learning languages in an increasingly interconnected world. Her inspiring interaction motivated students to continue exploring global cultures with curiosity and openness.

The celebration concluded on a patriotic note with the singing of La Marseillaise, the French National Anthem. The ceremony marked not only France’s National Day but also celebrated the enduring friendship between India and France, leaving students with a deeper appreciation for cultural exchange, international cooperation, and the transformative power of language learning.
