Recently, Apeejay School, Tanda Road, Jalandhar, organised a shlok/doha chanting activity for its UKG students, giving young learners a meaningful space to connect with devotional verse, language, rhythm, and expression. At an age when children are still building confidence in speech, such activities help them listen carefully, memorise with attention, and speak before others with greater ease.
The activity saw enthusiastic participation from the UKG students, who recited shloks of Kabir, Ravidass, and verses from Gurbani. Their participation reflected not only their readiness to learn but also the value of introducing children to India’s spiritual and literary traditions in an age-appropriate manner.
A foundation in voice and values
The chanting activity was designed to nurture devotional interest among the children while also strengthening their recitational and speaking skills. For young learners, recitation is more than repetition. It builds clarity of speech, improves pronunciation, and helps children understand the discipline of listening before speaking.
The verses chosen for the activity carried cultural and moral significance. By reciting them, students were gently introduced to ideas of devotion, wisdom, humility, and reflection. These are early impressions, but they matter.

Learning through participation
The atmosphere of the activity encouraged students to come forward with confidence. Chanting in front of peers helps children overcome hesitation, particularly when they are still learning how to express themselves in a group setting. It also teaches them patience, focus, and the importance of presenting with care.
For UKG students, this kind of participation becomes a small but important step in personal growth. It gives them a sense of achievement and helps them understand that learning can happen through voice, memory, feeling, and expression.
The shlok/doha chanting activity at Apeejay School, Tanda Road, thus brought together cultural learning and early skill building in a simple, thoughtful way.
