He is a creative voice at Apeejay School, Panchsheel Park, and making waves with his insightful writing on topics that resonate with students. Meet Ishaan, who has been chosen as Writer of the Week for his thoughtful take on social media, he shares his journey as a writer, his process of jotting down thoughts and also explains what drives his creativity.
What inspired you to write about social media?
It’s everywhere, right? We’re all glued to our screens, scrolling through endless feeds. I wanted to write about it because, while social media connects us, there are home truths we need to face. My goal was to spark conversation on the pros and cons and encourage us to think more critically about how we use it. I had an intense desire to share valuable information with a wider audience. While excess time on social media is a concern, it also serves as a prominent way to engage with friends and social circles, fostering connections and conversations.

How did the school help you grow as a writer?
Apeejay Newsroom is the biggest motivation for me! Seeing my articles published there feels incredible. It gives me a platform to share my ideas, get feedback, and connect with others. The whole process keeps me engaged and creative, while also boosting my confidence. Plus, having a space to write about topics that matter to me makes the whole experience so fulfilling.
Share your writing process. How do you make it all come together?
It’s all about the prep! I start by choosing a topic I’m curious about and then dive into research to make sure I have solid facts. Once I’ve got that, I organise my thoughts into an outline and start drafting. After that, it’s all about revising — making sure everything flows, is well structured and sounds clear. And finally, when I’m happy with it, I do a last read-through to polish it up before I submit the piece.
You dabble in different types of writing — articles, stories, poetry. What’s your favourite?
That’s a tough one! I love the impact of articles — they’re straight to the point, and you can pack a lot of meaning into them. There’s something satisfying about writing a piece that informs and gets people thinking. So yes, articles are probably my favourite!

You’re a reader too! What’s your top pick so far?
The Blue Umbrella by Ruskin Bond is definitely at the top of my list. Bond is such a brilliant storyteller, and that book just sticks with you. I think everyone should read it — it’s simple yet powerful.
What’s next on your writing agenda?
I’m planning to dive into a piece about how balanced nutrition impacts mental health. It’s something I believe is important, especially for students like us who need to stay sharp. Eating well can make such a huge difference, and I think it’s a topic worth exploring for people of all ages.
