Why should we thank God for everything we have?

Whenever I get up in the morning, the first thing my parents insist on is to thank the Almighty for the new day, healthy body, parents, a comfortable life and innumerable things. They speak and I repeat the words like a parrot after them, for their sake, unmindful of what it meant and what significance it holds.

The practice continued until my visit to a place that proved a turning point in my life. It happened a couple of months back when my parents took me to give charity at a place where the mentally and physically challenged lived.

As I entered the premises of the not-so-fortunate souls, I felt a little uncomfortable. I was taken aback by what I saw. It was not a good sight as some couldn’t walk, some just lay on the beds or on the floor, and some were speaking to themselves while some were born differently.

I was speechless for a moment and tears rolled down my cheek. That was the time when I realised how fortunate I am to have a beautiful body, affectionate parents, all the riches and amenities of life. At that moment I thanked the Almighty from the core of my heart.

That day, I understood why my parents insisted me to always thank the Supreme God for everything he has given us. We shouldn’t only thank God, but also the five elements of nature – The Earth, Water, Air, Fire and Space for providing us with everything.

Yes! dear friends, thank everything and everyone for whatever you have as each one plays an important role in our lives whether they are visible or not.
