Recently, Apeejay School, Charkhi Dadri, organised a trekking expedition to Kapoori Hills for students of Classes VIII to XII. The initiative aimed to promote physical fitness while encouraging students to connect with nature in a meaningful way. It also reflected the school’s continued focus on experiential learning beyond the classroom.

The day began early, with students reporting at 7:30 am. After a brief orientation and safety instructions by teachers, the group set out for the trek. The route covered a total distance of 10 km, with an equal stretch of uphill and downhill terrain.

Students walked in groups under the supervision of experienced teachers. Along the way, they engaged with the natural surroundings, taking in the quiet landscape and open air. The journey offered a pause from routine schedules and created space for reflection as well as interaction.

Safety and preparation at the core

Careful planning ensured that student safety remained a priority. Participants were advised to wear appropriate attire and carry water, juices, and light snacks. Teachers monitored the group closely throughout the trek, ensuring hydration levels and overall well-being were maintained at every stage.

The physical challenge of the climb brought out a sense of shared responsibility among students. They supported one another during difficult stretches, which helped build both confidence and camaraderie.

Voices from the school leadership

The school Principal, Dr Vineet Vasishtha said, “I am extremely pleased with the success of the trekking expedition to Kapoori Hill. Such activities play a vital role in shaping the physical and emotional strength of our students. I appreciate the enthusiasm, discipline, and teamwork displayed by the participants. My sincere thanks to the teachers for ensuring safety and proper guidance throughout the journey. I strongly believe that experiential learning beyond classrooms is essential for holistic development, and we will continue to promote such initiatives in the future.”

By the end of the trek, many students expressed a sense of accomplishment. What stood out was not just the physical effort but the confidence gained along the way.

The experience points to a larger shift in school education, where outdoor activities are being considered essential rather than optional. Initiatives like these help students build resilience while learning to engage with the world beyond textbooks.
