Workshops on classroom management are crucial as they equip teachers with strategies to handle student misbehavior effectively, foster a positive learning environment, and enhance student engagement. They also promote empathy, discipline, and consistency, ensuring both academic and emotional growth in students.

To equip teachers with effective strategies, Apeejay School, Panchsheel Park, organised a workshop on March 27, 2025. The session, led by keynote speaker Ms Jayashree Mehta, provided educators with practical insights and tools to foster a positive and structured learning environment.

The workshop commenced with Ms Mehta emphasising the significance of energisers — short, engaging activities designed to re-engage students and maintain an interactive classroom atmosphere. She elaborated on the different types of misbehaviour commonly observed in classrooms, including disruptive talking, lack of attention, defiance, and physical aggression. By understanding these behaviours, teachers can implement targeted strategies to effectively manage and mitigate them.

During the session, Ms Mehta introduced practical techniques to address classroom disruptions. She stressed the importance of setting clear expectations from the beginning, fostering strong student-teacher relationships, and maintaining a structured classroom routine. The use of positive reinforcement as a tool for encouraging desirable behaviour was also discussed in detail. By acknowledging and rewarding positive conduct, teachers can create an environment where students feel motivated to engage constructively.

Additionally, Ms. Mehta highlighted the role of empathy and patience in managing student behavior. She encouraged teachers to adopt a proactive approach by identifying potential triggers of misbehavior and addressing them before they escalate. Through real-life examples and interactive discussions, educators gained a deeper understanding of behavioral management techniques that can be seamlessly integrated into their daily teaching practices.

The workshop also featured an insightful address by the School Principal, Ms Surabhi Joshi. She underscored the importance of a supportive and respectful classroom atmosphere, where students feel valued and heard. She encouraged teachers to view classroom discipline as an opportunity to nurture responsible and well-rounded individuals rather than merely correcting misbehaviour.

Teachers actively participated in the workshop, engaging in discussions and role-playing exercises that allowed them to experience different classroom scenarios. The interactive nature of the session ensured that educators left with practical strategies they could immediately implement in their classrooms.

The workshop was a significant step towards empowering teachers with the necessary skills to handle behavioural challenges effectively. By fostering a balanced approach that combines discipline with empathy, educators at Apeejay School are now better equipped to create an environment conducive to both academic and emotional growth.

Such initiatives reinforce the school’s commitment to holistic education, ensuring that students receive the guidance and support they need to thrive in a structured yet nurturing learning space.
