The Department of Applied Arts at Apeejay College of Fine Arts (ACFA), Jalandhar, organised an educational visit to Evergreen Publications to familiarise students with the professional publishing and printing industry. The visit was part of the college’s ongoing initiative to supplement classroom learning with practical exposure and help students understand how their academic knowledge applies to real-world settings.

A total of 35 students from the Bachelor of Fine Arts (BFA) and Master of Fine Arts (MFA) Applied Arts programmes participated in the visit. They gained insights into the various stages involved in publication, including design, illustration, printing and production. The experience helped them understand how creative concepts and design skills are translated into finished products through professional processes.

During the visit, Ms Ronita Chopra and Ms Riya Chopra, Managing Partners at Nova Publications, interacted with the students and shared valuable insights into the publishing industry. Their interaction familiarised students with the sector’s professional operations and offered a broader understanding of the processes involved in taking a publication from concept to completion.

The visit provided students an opportunity to connect their classroom learning with industry practices. By observing the different stages of publication and printing, they gained a clearer understanding of the technical and creative aspects of the profession. Such exposure is particularly valuable for Applied Arts students, as it helps them appreciate the practical demands of the industry and explore potential career avenues in publishing, illustration and graphic design.

Sharing her views on the educational tour, Principal Dr Neerja Dhingra emphasised that bookish knowledge alone is insufficient for the holistic development of students. She highlighted the importance of imparting practical knowledge, particularly to those pursuing professional courses, and observed that industry visits offer an enriching learning experience while familiarising students with workplace practices.

Dr Dhingra further noted that such initiatives enable students to explore career opportunities and develop a better understanding of the professional environment. She appreciated the efforts of Mr Anil Gupta, Head of the Department of Applied Arts, and the faculty members for successfully organising the visit.

Encouraging the department to continue such initiatives, she stressed that practical exposure plays an important role in preparing students for professional responsibilities and helping them identify suitable livelihood opportunities.

The educational tour reflected ACFA’s emphasis on experiential learning and industry engagement. By providing students with firsthand exposure to publishing and printing operations, the initiative strengthened the connection between academic learning and professional practice, helping aspiring designers and creative professionals gain a more informed perspective on their future careers.
