Educational tours are vital for school children as they extend learning beyond the classroom, providing real-world experiences that deepen their understanding of history, culture, and heritage. Such events help students engage actively with the subject matter, fostering curiosity and a sense of inquiry. By visiting places of historical significance, students gain a tangible connection to the past, enriching their overall educational journey.
“Curriculum Activity 7, Cultural Odyssey: Discovering the Vibrancy of India, USA, Bangladesh, Japan, and South Africa” is part of The Recognition of an International Dimension in Schools Programme (RIDS). Apeejay School, Nerul, organised an excursion trip for the students of class V. The students embarked on an enriching educational tour to explore Gandhiji’s monumental contributions to India’s freedom struggle. This special tour, in Mumbai, led to two landmark locations: Mani Bhavan Sangrahalaya and the Discovery of India Museum.

The journey began early morning with eager young minds setting off to uncover the stories of India’s past. Their first stop was Mani Bhavan, a historic site closely associated with Mahatma Gandhi. Students delved into the life and legacy of Gandhiji, learning about his relentless efforts for India’s independence and his profound philosophy of non-violence.
The visit offered a unique glimpse into the world of Father of the Nation where children observed a wide array of artifacts, photographs, and documents that vividly showcased his pivotal role in shaping India’s history. The students engaged with exhibits detailing his movements, strategies, and the personal sacrifices he made for the country’s freedom.
The next destination, the Discovery of India Museum, further enriched the students’ understanding of the diverse cultural heritage and the historical context of Gandhiji’s work. Through interactive displays and exhibits, the students explored the rich tapestry of traditions, historical events, and contributions to global civilisation.

Throughout the tour, students actively participated in peer assessments, noting down key observations and insights about Gandhiji’s contributions. They shared their thoughts, fostering a collaborative learning environment. Their enthusiasm and curiosity were palpable as they absorbed the day’s lessons.
The educational tour left the students with a profound appreciation for the nation’s history and Gandhiji’s enduring legacy, as well as a deeper understanding of their cultural identity.
